Happy birthday Marine Corps, Semper Fi!

I remember well arriving at Parris Island in the fall of 65. Can you say "SHOCK"

Yeah.

First night in boot camp at MCRD SD, while still in the receiving barracks, I caught midwatch firewatch.

Two uncles in the Marines one ted kieffer
in France in world war one when the Germans
gave them there nickname . Served at
Norfolk in world war two and buried at
Arlington. Hopefully someday I can see his
grave. The second Joe Kieffer got tired of
picking corn by hand and joined he was on
Bataan and ended up in manchuria he made it
home . Third brother Ernst joined the army.

I was at Parris Island 50 years ago today...when we got back to the barracks after evening chow we were marched out behind the squad bay where we went through the cake cutting ritual for the 191st birthday, Seems like yesterday.

Semper Fi and Happy 241st birthday MARINES!!!!
