My most useful piece of farm equipment!

A 1989 Toyota! After the old Suzuki I had gave up the ghost, I decided I wanted a side-by-side utility vehicle. For a while I had a '63 Jeep that worked pretty well, but my dad grenaded the motor so again I was without a utility vehicle on the farm.

Around this time (2012), my buddy had just moved back to MD from a stint in MN, and had this little truck sitting at his house untagged--wouldn't pass MD inspection. His HOA was going to impound it, so one day out of the blue it wound up at my farm (I was on vacation at the time), with instructions to "feel free to use it".

And I have! It's towed and hauled around the farm, moved cows, pulled out stuck equipment (it's 2wd, so I did invest in som really aggressive MTs fir the back), and much more! Sure, it's needed some work over the years, and yes, the brakes and OD don't work very well, but for what I needed it for, this little Toyota excels! Best $0 I've ever spent on farm equipment ever.:)

That'll work. It amazes me what people are paying for those utility vehicles. Some of them are pushing $20K. Folks that pay that either aren't depending solely on cattle for an income, or have a whole lot more than me. I had an old Nissan 4x4 that I bought for $450 that I used for a few years. it was rusted pretty bad but the 4x4 worked as well as the heater, radio and even the a/c. It finally gave up and I haven replaced it yet but I've been looking around.

I just spent the last 20 years saving to buy my new Ranger,,,, not a easy thing to do either raising three kids and three grandchildren,, I have six but thank goodness my youngest is a real Mom and raises them herself, I work seven days a week all year long to survive. why do you have to put someone down for working their butts off to buy something they need? not all are like you say,,, sure some are but not all of us,,,

The greatest small truck ever built. I put over 300K on 2 of them, and then a few more years in the fields. Wish I could find another for the farm.

Nothing like a small 4WD around the farm I have a 89 Isuzu and a 92 GMC Sonoma and love both of them far better than a high priced utility vehicle and I can legally run them 50 miles
from my farm with no tag except the 'FARM USE' tag from TSC.Instead of a 4 wheeler I have 2 Simplicity Sunstars garden tractors.

im the same i have a 95 chevy 3/4 ton 4x4 i got cheap it runs great and gets used for everything, i also have a 4 by 5 carryall for a 3 pt hitch for smaller jobs, never saw the need for one of those utility vehicles, if the tractor doesnt have the room to carry what i need the truck does

Back when GM had the proving ground here, the company bought a compact Toyota pickup to run alongside of their S10 size. The Toyota was still going strong after it had worn down 4 GM pickups. GM then decided that they weren't going to change oil in the Toyota anymore; Toyota wore out a couple more S10's. Finally the company decided not to add any oil to the Toyota engine; Toyota wore out a couple more S10's. The people working at the proving ground couldn't believe what that little truck could do.

Mine is a 72 chevy 3/4, 4x4.... it has earned the name "the goat".. spreads poop, pulled hay rake, hauled wood, got
the family out after 2-12 inch snow falls in one week, pulls hay trailer, etc. etc. I bought it 14 years ago and
tried to sell it few years back after I bought the 2000 F250 but glad I didnt...

Just moved my '55 Land Rover to the farm so when time permits it gets a new battery and fuel. It is one handy piece of kit. With 4WD and an 86" wheel base it goes and goes and goes. On the down side, it's sprung like a roller skate.

Well said .. It all boils down to what a guy WANTS and is willing to work or pay for. We are selling Kubota RTVs like never before, as many as 5 or 7 a month and a lot of them are going to farms. Nothing wrong with a cheap pickup if that is what the guy wants but nothing wrong with a new four wheel drive rtv either.

My brother has one of those. Maybe even the same year by its looks. His is a long bed 1-ton. A 1-ton Toyota pickup? And with single rears? My brother has one. He bought it from some elderly couple that had a business in Indiana and California and used to use it for pulling equipment back and forth. He can't use it anymore because he's gone pretty blind and more recently has been battling cancer for a few years. I've been after him to sell it to me so I can replace the carb and master cylinder that I hear are weak and its dry rotted tires to give it to one of our sisters to use around her place. It's in great physical shape. He always bragged about it's 20R or 22R engine, whatever it's called. Just been setting in his shop for years collecting dust and still is.

All I can say is ??????????????????????

I have my 91 chevy 2500 ex cab that got a blow head on...not worth fixing to get on road.....still runs and drives, so fieldbeat.

I'm tempted to build shelves and small bolt cabinets...(for dirt cheap tools and common hardware(that wouldn't have to come out once done with a task)... in the back seat, to save bed space.

I traded for a 94 Toyota 4x4 with lots and lots of rust. I wouldn't drive it on the road but makes a great fencing truck and side by side for my wife. Price is right and when it goes....well I will look for another
