Don't watch much TV

I find I spend more time on my computer looking up interesting topics. Last night I watched the battle of Midway Island. Wife watches her stuff on the big TV. I'm happy with my computer screen. Stan

Same situation here. Perhaps one difference (hopefully) My wife just sits and watches bird-brain TV 12 months of year. ( Rather than be outside anytime ) Maybe you are more lucky than I am, and your wife only watches TV when weather is truly cold ( Below Freezing 32 degres F ) I guess it is the price we pay.

lived happily w/o tv for over 15 yrs now. At motels we watch it for a short while & get bored/disgusted w/it. Its more of an aggravation than you think.

same here, wife will spend all dang day watching some tv series, then gets on my case for spending 20 - 30 min on computer checking emails and what not, but i don't dare say any thing about her wasted day on the couch lol. when i watch tv i usually start to fall asleep rather quick but can spend few hours on computer and not get sleepy.

We have old tv's. The kind with the round screen. Our friends make fun of us an turn their nose up because we haven't bought an "as large as the sofa" flat screen tv. It's one appliance in my house I don't use much. The couch is not where you will find me, unless I'm sick, then that's the bed mostly. Like the fellow on here said, I jump on the computer to learn something if I can.

TV isn't on much at our house. We have a Sony 32" Trinitron tube TV, no other TVs in the house. Kids lobby for a new flat screen TV every time they come back home. Flat screens are nice but as long as this one is still working, it's fine for as much as we watch it which is maybe once or twice a week on Saturday or Sunday nite. Funny thing is that I haven't watched anything on the major networks in years. There are about 4 or 5 channels I'll hit looking for entertainment, mostly old Movie channels. I used to like the History or Discovery channel but they're garbage now too. However, the wife will spend hours on the computer playing Candy Crush or some stupid witch and bubble game or Scrabble against her sister. I'll check email, our retirement savings accounts and this site every other day or so. Life is too short to spend it in front of the bube tube.

Funny thing is that my wife has been bugging me to go visit our relatives in Florida in the winter (in-laws, brother, sister, etc). I say why? All they do is sit in front of the TV all day. Why fly all that way to do that?

I may watch more Tv after the election. I can't stand all the ads.

I too read more off computer than watch Tv bubble gum.

I'm glad to be in good company.
Don't own a tv and haven't for most of my adult life.
Tv is just an emotion generator. The prorgamming is designed to picque your interest, drag you along on an emotional roller coaster then leave you with whatever your feelings may be at the end.
Not one ounce of thinking required. This simple post I'm writing requires 50 times the thought that even a hard hitting documentary requires.
Nothing has dumbed down this society as much as tv has. And tv sports has been a big contributor to that dumbing down.
But we're not going to change a nation. So I just let the dumb get dumber though I rarely let an opportunity pass to chide those who watch a lot of tv and/or sports.

We watch about one hour at night. Usually something I have recorded off INSP such as Bonanza, Walker, Waltons, Rifleman, well you get my drift.
Skip over all commercials by fast forwarding. I will admit I recently bought a DVD set of Red Skelton.
Have not had time to watch any yet.
I remember when we got one channel back in the mid 50's.
And our TV has a picture tube.

I would watch tv.
But if it was eating squash while watching tv or pounding my thumbs with a hammer I would probably go get the hammer.

We haven't had regular TV for 5 years now. Won't pay the ridiculous prices for dish and we're in a dead zone for antennae. We have streaming connection to You Tube, Netflix and Hulu. Ma typically watches Hulu on the big screen and lately the majority of that is quilt shows. She's built 4 baby quilts and just acquired shirts from a fallen cousin to build 6 more memory quilts. TV puts me to sleep. I tried watching the History of Cadilac on You Tube last night and only made the first 20 mins.. So at 1 hour running time i'm good for all week. I probably have more time invested in YTing than TVing. and it's likely that I learn more and retain more from here. I don't know if that is good or bad.

Just to be different, I enjoy tv every day of my adult life. Although most of the time it is just background while I'm on the computer but my attention can switch back and forth to whichever is most interesting at the moment. And off in the background in the kitchen I'll have CBC am radio going all the time. Sometimes tv gets turned off in favour of what is on the radio. Often far more entertaining too. (And no ads!)
I will admit there is far too much advertising on tv. For what I pay Shaw every month I should not have to watch ads.

My wife can't function without a TV on somewhere. Usually on CNN, which I absolutely detest. On the other hand, when my wife is out of town, I can go several days without turning one of the sets on. (We have to have 4 in our house).

I pay the satellite bill, and I'm wondering more and more, "Why?"

Got 2 TVs in the house, both newer flat screen. When we are doing daycare for the grand kids and it weather is bad they get some TV time on netflicks. Wife and I may watch something on history or discovery from the same or youtube once in a great while.

Y'all just don't know how to cook squash

Larry,
There is a simple solution to you question. I would throw the bowl of zuchinni squash into the TV. Then get a bowl of apple pie and ice cream, both warmed in microwave for 20 second. That's my late night snack while watching the late news.
You have to admit, you have to eat something with what been on the news for the past year and half. Glad when today is over with and the news will hopefully be on a different topic.
