Got my wood in for the winter.....

...assuming we have a winter. It's been in the upper 80s here today (N. La.) and it was still 70 at midnight. Don't think it has been down to the 50s yet this fall.

This pile of wood will probably carry me through the winter. The part that's missing at the top of the rack is what I burned last winter. If I do run low, there's plenty more out behind the house.

That would fill my central boiler twice..maybe! It was 71 at 10 last night when I came in from shelling corn and is 64 here at 5 am. Now the question is will it stay mild or is a bad winter around corner?

Was thinking the same thing. Back when I used to burn wood (in my last house) that pile might last 48 hours.

Hi, I think that pile would last 2 or 3 days in winter at our house. We use about 4 chords or so.Ed Will Oliver BC

While that pile of wood doesn't seem like much to us up north I would bet he has an air conditioning bill for 8 or 9 months of the year.

Wow we burn more than that in the pit for an evening weenie roast with the neighbours.

Takes a tall horse trailer filled to the roof just to get the shop through the winter.

Yep 9 months at least.i live in south La. and remember mowing the lawn one year on Christmas Eve! Saw there was a previous post about "snow fence".had to google what that was!

Yep, AC is still on. My electric bill for September was $102.00; a bit higher in August. My furnace is natural gas, which is also pretty cheap.

Well, as pointed out here by many, that's not a lot of wood, but if it gets the job done for you, fantastic. I guess depending on the temperatures, that could be stretched out over a week here, and then again, not. A days worth? Certainly here under most conditions.

It gives me a great idea though. Your rack. My brother is very legally blind and because of chemo therapy for colon cancer, its getting worse, and the chemo weakens him too. He lives alone, and burns primarily by wood, gas back up. His choice. Thing is though, his wood is outside in his shop, probably six cord. Your rack is the better part of a rank and I've been wondering how to get him a good supply down in his basement so he doesn't have to battle the extreme cold or deep snow outside. You just gave me an idea. A couple of racks like yours down in his basement. The better part of a cord on hand until someone can run over and restock him.

Thanks Jerry for the photo. I was thinking four or so big rubber trash cans, but that aint much. Two or three racks like yours in his basement is just what the doctor ordered. Thanks again Jerry.

Mark, as you probably can tell, this rack is simply four metal corner posts, eight corner tops and some toprail. Nothing to it.
