Prices in Canada are insane...

Hi, I have often been astounded how cheap items are in the US versus here in Canada. Awhile back it was the price of a shop (to put my tractors in), that was about $40k in the US, I had quoted for $160k in Nova Scotia.
Now my truck needs rocker panels. They're $90 in the US, $269 in Canada. I have often wondered why we are getting ripped off like this...

Sorry for the rant, but 3 times the price, really???

Must be a "east coast" thing . While visiting the states last month , I couldn't
really see much difference in prices when exchange rates had been factored in. Maybe
more to do with a smaller market , and less locale competition. Some times stores will
charge as much as the market will bare , if you want it , and cannot get it anywhere
else , you either pay or go without. Bet you get a real good price on Lobster. Bruce

In Canada right now visiting relatives
right now. Saw gas for 90 cents!!!
Gees, better fill up before crossing
the border!! Oh wait, that's not per
gallon...

blunoser I have a camp in NS. on Ponhook lake I try to get up there at least twice during the spring and summer. Other than the price of gas I don't find the prices to be so far off although I don't have a need to buy the kind of things you are speaking of, I am mostly buying groceries and small hardware items while on vacation. I did have a local tree service fella cut 4 trees down that were between the camp and the power lines along side the road and he charged me $700.00 I felt that was quite reasonable especially with the exchange rate brought it to just over $600.he kept the wood and took all the brush away. I built a 10'x 10' shed 2 yrs. ago and bought all material from Castle building supply I don't recall the exact price of material but it wasn't out of line with what I would pay here I am going to say around $1100.

Amazon.ca and .com are the issue. Bought a part for a travel trailer. Was less than $2 US + shipping, duty, exchange on ".com", was $40 CDN + shipping on ".ca" try to see if the US one will ship to Canada. Might still be half cost even with duty & exchange.

Lots of Canadians ship to a US address. Either a parcel handler or what I've been told works good is to ship to a UPS Store (in the USA) and then when it arrives, go for a nice drive. Any experiences on this?

try rock auto
I use them anytime that you can wait for parts can sometimes take 2 weeks to get shipped to Canada
even with exchange it's usually 1/2 price or better
they sell body parts as well
rockers for my Jeep Liberty start at 25.99
parts supply in town quoted 130 a side
I found a lot on amazon can is more than it is in the stores
but you can find deals if you look there
parts

Done both, depends on the seller. Had some truck parts couriered to my house from US seller, no issues and amount my CC was charged was what the sales slip said, no hidden or added customs/brokerage.

Had some machine parts sent to a US address since I was planning to be there anyways, main thing is is make sure your parcel arrives before you do....

Yeah and it's coming here, too, once the government completely takes over our health care. We haven't seen anywhere near the worst of it here yet, but it's coming.

When I was living close to the WASHINGTON STATE border on the Canadian side, I had goods purchased in the USA sent to :

BETTA's SERVICES at..... 1306 Main St, Oroville, WA 98844:

If a fork lift can unload the merchandise down to a small box the cost was set at $4.00!

Drive back across the border into Canada ..... savings were phenomenal!

Used and new Tractor parts Cost a fraction in the USA compared to the cost in Canada:

All used TRACTOR parts were sent as FREE shipping. Nothing is FREE ! Shipping was included in purchase price of parts:

Try RockAuto. A lot of the body parts on RockAuto are actually shipped from Canada. You can buy 2 slip on rockers for extended cab 99-06 trucks for 66.77CAD + tax.
