Road travel safest route?

I have a storage facility about 8 miles from my farm operation. I'm moving equipment down for winter and have two routes. One is a state route with 45 - 55 mph speed limits but wide shoulders and great visibility. The other is back roads no more than 35 mph, far less traffic, but it does have a few somewhat sharp curves with trees and no shoulder. Which is generally considered safer?

I personally would rather be moving equipment on the larger road. You have wide shoulders to keep equipment on your side of the road. Narrow and blind curves mean escort vehicles to me.

I would take the state highway. After everyone gets to work in the am and before they get out of work in the pm. Better yet early Saturday or Sunday morning.

I would take the back roads with farm equipment. State roads are meant for high speed travel, I stay off them as much as possible with any slow moving equipment. Sunday morning is often a good time to move equipment.

I would go with two smart people in a couple of vehicles with blinky
lights on. Also do not forget you SMV sign. Toooo many wakos out
there.

Hard to say, here is an accident that happened recently by me, was on a state hwy with plenty of shoulder.

On October 14, 2016, at approximately 7:30am, Gary Falash, age 55 of Pound WI., was driving a 2004 Kenworth
semi, west on Hwy 18 in Mt. Hope Township. Falash was hauling a 1995 Case IH Combine, which the tires
stuck out beyond the width of the flatbed trailer. Michael Mathre, age 21 of Bloomington, was driving a 1988
Case IH 7140 tractor, west along the shoulder of Hwy 18. Falash thought he had enough room to drive by the
tractor, but the front right tire on the combine struck the rear left tire on the tractor. The tractor spun 180 degrees
before coming to rest on Clark Rd. The semi came to a stop along Hwy 18. No injuires were reported. The tractor was a
total loss and the tractor was removed by Guy's Truck and Tractor of Kieler. No citations were issued and the Mt. Hope
Fire Dept. assisted the Sheriff's Office at the scene.

I always hated coming through Denver on Sunday mornings. You either had little old ladies headed to church, driving the minimum speed, the young wife with 3 kids that got out of the house 20 minutes late, and was trying to make it to church on time, or the drunks that were still trying to make it home.
