Larry I just bought 1 1/2 dozen eggs for $.79. They where not on sale either. Just a while back eggs where 3-4 times more money. I do not see how anyone can sell them for $.79. I wonder if they are a loss leader for the store???

JDSeller,

I pay as much as 2 bucks a dozen straight from the local farm. I haven't priced eggs in years. For me, it's money well spent for the eggs and supporting the farmer directly.

dont know .but the expiration date was nov 17,I want to pickle some with the red beets from the garden...I cant understand how anyone could package and sell eggs for that price,,,even the pork chops..they looked good, but we didnt need sny,I just had bought a boneless pork loin for 1.69 and sliced it into chops and froze them. Its just the two of us eating at home right now.

Dennis there are not any farmers selling eggs around me. You would have to drive thirty miles to the nearest farmers market.

A couple of weeks ago, local supermarket was giving away free dozen eggs with any purchase. The coupon came with your purchase.

I buy my eggs from a local farmer 2.50 a doz

1 I support him and his family
2 I know they are fresh as they are usually processing that mornings gather
3 I know the chickens are free range giving eggs a muck better taste
4 A the local stores eggs start at 3.50 a doz that are probably a week old before they get them

I also buy beef (5.69 lb), pork (3.89 lb) and chicken (6.00 ea) from a local that only buys from the
local farmers direct for the same reasons

when in season we also buy as much from locals we can and freeze or can as much as possible
we do have a small garden but not much from it

about all we buy from any grocery store is coffee, milk (4.89 4l or 1 us gal roughly) and butter
(6.50 lb) they aren't making much off us

I'm sure the local farmers aren't making a lot off us either but at least they know we support them

I wish we could get anywhere near your prices on food staples, most groceries are about 50 - 60%
more with a cple weekly exceptions on most items

Sounds like a good time to get it the chicken business. Now that you are cutting back on cows be a perfect time to get in and the grand kids could make a little money.

Larry,
You and the wife should take a ride out to Hornings Market in Bethel sometime (78w to 501s). It's a mennonite grocery store and they have great prices. They are open Mon-Sat, and its best to go during the week because it gets flooded with city people from Reading on Saturdays unless you go early.
I paid .62 cents/doz for large eggs this past week. Last week, mediums were .39/doz. Fresh lunchmeats and cheeses $2.39/lb for smoked turkey breast on sale. $1.99 for cooked ham. Fresh made hoagies are $2.50. We love that place and go once a week. If you spend $100 here, your cart will be full (guaranteed)
I get so disgusted with the prices at the grocery stores anymore after shopping here
