Computer Question........

A month ago, I installed Windows 7 Pro on a new, blank hard drive. During installation, the process wouldn't accept the product key number from the computer, but I clicked on a field that said "Skip" and the rest of the installation went OK and the computer worked/works fine.

A couple of days ago, I got a message that Windows needed to be activated. I tried, and it still wouldn't accept the key number. Then yesterday Windows shut off and the screen went black, but all of the programs I'd installed, plus the Internet still work same as ever. Everything is normal, except when no programs are running, the screen is black instead of light blue. I guess I can keep on running it like that. Thursday evening I'll be at a meeting near a computer shop I've used in the past, so I may run it by them. For $15 for the installation disc, I assume it was a copy or pirated.

The copy used doesn't really matter other than it has to be the same version as your key. So if your license key is for the Home version and you installed the Pro version it won't work.

if it is not the same version it will not work.if it is the same version there is usally a microsoft phone number you can call and get a new key for the same version. been thru it a thousand times

While they may change their mind and push it again, Microsoft no longer pushes Windows 10 on a Windows 7 computer.
They stopped doing that a month or two ago.
