MF 50 Hour Maintenance

My sister in law recently bought a new Massey Ferguson compact tractor.

It is coming up to time for the first 50 hour maintenance. I haven't talked to her, but she called my wife asking if I would be interested in coming out and servicing it.

The dealer wants $800 for the service! Is this something required for warranty, that they do the maintenance? I haven't read the owners manual, or even seen the tractor, but can't imagine that being an $800 job! Anything special about it, computers or scanners involved?

I would like to help her out. $800 and finding a way to get it to the dealer is very unlikely to happen. If she bought the oil and filters or whatever is called for, would that satisfy the warranty?

Thanks!

All you have to do is record the date the service was performed, the services performed, the person who did the service. Receipts for the parts would be a bonus. You should get the manual and read what services are required.

If it is still under warranty, all she should have to pay for is the oil and filters. Contact the company if the dealer gives you the runaround. Ben

At 50 hours not much should be needed. Check the owners manual. How far from the dealer is she ? That figure hopefully includes pick up and delivery ?
That's why the neighbor lady has me do the maintenance on the Kubota. I work way too cheap !

what model is it? I can check and see what needs to be done for you, $800 could be high but it depends on what all is being changed, you can service it, it will not effect the warranty

As John T would say it is not important what Bubba may think is correct. I'd suggest to read the manual and the warranty sheet.

I know it is apples and oranges, BUT, my Mahindra first 50HR service was only engine oil filter and the front diffrential and checking torque on every exposed bolt on the thing. The 100 hour service was all fluids and filters. If I remember correctly I paid a bit over 300 including transportation.

When under warranty don't take a chance.

I got it put to me when I took my Kawasaki Mule in for it's first 50 hr service. $175 Dealer changed engine oil, 2 qts and filter. Both differentials, less than 3 qts. I thought they also checked the valve clearance for that price. At 200 hrs I asked dealer if he had checked valves? He looked at records and said no, to check valve clearance would have cost another $200. It took me 30 minutes to check valves, which were spot on. I would have been upset if they were. It takes me about 30 minutes to change all 3 oils too.

I do my own service work after warranty. Dealer takes care of everything while under warranty so he has no wiggle room if something goes south.

When I bought my Caseih new about 4 years ago the dealer performed the first service and charged it to Case. I believe I paid for the filters.

warranty work is only manufacture defect it will not cover oils, filters or the labor to do the service, you can buy a package that covers filters and oil and labor

I did my own JD compact hydraulic change and filters. Oil and filters were close to #200. The manual said to change after the first 50 hours. I used hy gard and the JD filters. Ron Mn
