Hello Everyone,

I posted a message earlier with the subject "Looking for some advise on buying a tractor!". I would like to thank all of you who responded with valuable comments and feedback.

I have looked at the models mentioned in those comments but I haven't seen anyone talking about Cabela's tractors. I was looking at "Cabela's Cab LM45H WLM Tractor" and it seems to be a good
one.

I haven't seen any used Cabela's tractor for sale. The new one on Cabela's website is around $30K.

I would really appreciate your comments / feedback on this tractor.

Thanks a lot in advance.

TYM is a Korean import, and most Korean machinery is pretty good (Hyundai, Kioti, Kia, etc.). But a tractor is only as good as the servicing dealer- and Cabelas is NOT going to fix your tractor. Ask them where you will get parts and service. If they don't know, head for your car. Compact JD's are made in Japan (Yanmar), and dealer support is tops. I think I'd stick with JD or Kubota, for resale value if nothing else.

That advice is most important. If they cannot tell you where and how to get the steering pump rebuilt, or a new starter, or new seals for the hydraulics, you better think again.

You're better off finding a tractor at an established, servicing dealer than buying a random import branded tractor that someone painted camouflage and put a Cabela's sticker on.

If John Deere and Kubota are too expensive for your tastes, look at other dealers like Mahindra. Make sure the dealer you choose has been around for a while.

Our JD 4600 (2001) was assembled in US, I'm pretty sure. We have almost 1000 hours on it with no unscheduled maintenance, two broken valve stems (tire) that's it, and that's because half of it's use is brush cutting. We had a good dealer, but it got gobbled up by a much larger one so it's not so good anymore. I used JD oil and filters when it was under warranty but since then it's Mobil Delvac and Wix filters, so I really don't need the dealer, and you can buy most anything online.

You need to start shopping the local dealers for a good used tractor. Forget the internet. Get in your car and go for a drive. Avoid the used tractor jockeys who buy stuff without knowing what it is and try to turn a quick buck. In your price range,a Deere or Kubota are probably out. Massey,Ford/New Holland,CaseIH or McCormick will probably be your best bet in the long run.

Cabela's is getting out of the tractor business just FYI. Thats what they told me anyways. My buddy bought the LM50H about a year ago. Went to get him a box blade from there and thats when they told me they were getting out of the tractor and implement business. They had one but shipped it in.

(quoted from post at 10:41:09 10/18/16) How does the dealer know anything about his used tractors?

The only thing the dealer knows is it's a great tractor, very powerful and well worth every penny they're asking for it.

IMHO, a dealer is the WORST place to look for a used tractor. Dealers want way too much for what the tractor is, don't stand behind used equipment, don't know a thing about it if it's not the brand they sell, and absolutely will NOT budge an inch on the price.

Quite a few years ago my brothers neighbor needed a new tractor. He ended up buying a checklosovakia made tractor. Zetor I think. Anyway it was a pos he had a lot of trouble with the hydraulics. It was assembled with blue silicone, and they used too much and it kept flaking off and pluging up the hydraulics. He could have bought a three year old comparable size Deere for the same money and wished many times he had!
