A guy told me......

that motor oil that will be used in the future should not be stored any place where the temperature will drop below 32 degrees. Is he right?

if he is a physic's teacher . might be refering to condensation. but how do u do that whan a person dont live in californa.

Bs. I keep all my oil in an unheated garage. Only time there is heat is when I am working in it. Sometimes temps well below 0. I come in and put the heater on and we do this all winter. I have never had enough condensation to even say there was any. That's some weird thinking!

Yeah I don't have the space at my place to keep any tractors or even my truck out of below freezing temps. during the winter. Actually nothing at the farm stays heated either. When we need to use something it gets plugged in and warmed up before use.

He is not right. Comm oils have no hydro component(water) which would make them sensitive to any state change at 32F. Various components of oils and additives have state changes below 32F, so there's no reason to consider that temp as critical for anything.

What tree did he fall from what is the difference if its in the engine or setting on a shelf tems below 32 are everywhere

Probably best to let him dribble on and not waste time on his silliness..i had a lad tell me the amazing gas mileage story this week of an early 80's F150...the only way he got that mileage was to convert miles to kilometers..his numbers were close then.

What about after I pour it in my truck, and it sets at work all weekend, outside, at -10 or more degrees F?

He might have heard something about going cold-warm-cold-warm and accumulating condensation in something, he might have something like that in mind. But it just ain't so in a closed container.

And in the engine, the cold-warm-cold-warm issue is dealt with buy the engine heating the oil to the point where the water is no longer a problem. That's why short trips are so much harder on the engine (oil) than a longer drive.
