Fixed up the old Kvernerland Plow today

We rent out our sod ground for potatoes when it's due to be ploughed so normally there's little or no ploughing for us to do ourselves. We do have a few fields that don't get rented out either because it's not suitable potato ground or its land we rent that the owner doesn't want potatoes to be planted in it so we plough it. We still have my late fathers 5 sod Kvernerland that's been here for at least as long as I can remember (I'm 42) and I use it behind his old 3505 MF. It's been 2 years since I last ploughed with it and I warned the Misses than that next time around it'll need a lot of repair before it goes back out again. I hooked it on yesterday got 2' and the hydraulic line blew, got a new one 18' long made up. Pulled it out of the weeds, got out to loosen the 3/4 bolt that holds the jack stand in place and it twisted off. Today I fixed that, put all new points, shears 3 new land slides and got a replace coulter assembly from salvage as one fell off and am doing a couple of small wet fields tomorrow before we get rain Sunday and after that I may not get over them before I do the dryer fields. The parts man at John Deer said he had 5 shears in stock to fit it and cut them from the $110 listed each to $55 as he said they can't be sent back and unless we took them they'd never sell. I love this time of year, everyone in the farming community is more relaxed and in a better mood lol. Really happy to have Dad's old plough back into shape and can't wait to use it tomorrow.

I had a four furrow plough just like that one in the 80's. It is a spring trip plough , so if you hit a rock it will release the shank and trip the mole board. Then you have to back up to reset the plough .
I sold mine , and bought a auto-reset with the big green springs on top. I foung the auto-reset plough was much more farmer freindly to use , as you didn't have to watch like a hawk to be sure they were all down ,lol.
Being as this plough has sat for a long tie , I would knck the retaining bars on top of the plough up , and start to plough with them off. This way if they are stuck , they will trip up easier , and you can grease the zerk that is hidden under there. Could save you a plough point. Bruce

I was able to get them all unhooked and lifted up one at a time to make it easier to work on and they seemed to be freed up not too bad but if they are stuck the next time that's a great idea thanks! Do you know roughly how old those plows might happen to be?

Yes I don't think I'll find another set,the land slides were too long and were butting up along side of the shear and not tightening flush against the frog so I had to modify them to set properly

The picture takes me back. When I was a kid ours was a 3X16 mounted. The same pipe between furrows but without the square bar. That was a hard pulling plow. We got a JD 145 semi to replace it.I got married in 84 and remember my new bride driving while I rode on the beam of that old Kverneland with a stick trying to keep the cornstalks from bunching up.

I think you would be hard pressed to find a dealer that ever herd on a Kvernerland around these parts. I have never seen one and this site is only place I ever heard the name. Are you from Canada?

Just a WAG but I'd say it's probably mid 70's or so. We had a 5-14 Hydrein that was from the late 60's to early 70's. It looked quite similar to yours minus some of the stickers.... and you also have a much shorter board. It's hard to get shares wear parts for those old war horses. We have an AB85 now...
