Riding mower deck inspection

How do people inspect their mower decks without removing deck?
No axle stands here so I'm guessing up on blocks. If so, best place to place jack? Weighs 500 lbs.
Thanks

I hung a chain hoist from the rafters. Hook it to the front of the tractor, lift it up.

That way no jack, blocks, stands in the way. The cheapest Harbor Freight hoist is plenty sufficient.

My Country Clipper zero turn has the stand up deck. It is better than not having it, but I think I'll use my engine hoist next time and just lift the whole mower.

Hi, I have a pin in the shop door header to which I
hang a small cable come along. I hook onto the
mowers trailer hitch and lift it up . I throw an old
rug down, crawl under, scrape crap off deck,
remove blades to sharpen or whatever. Works well

What kind of mower? Garden tractor, ZTR, tractor w/belly mower or?

I bought a mower lift for my Ferris ZTR. This model has no problem lifting the front axle of the 1100 pound Ferris.

I have portable overhead I beam for lifting with 2 of those chain hoists on and use it for everything, right now it has a hay rake hanging on it. On the mower I hook a chain on each side on front axle and that way they do not hit the hood and lift evenly.

I too use a mower lift which I purchased at Home Depot. It has adjustable width receptacles for the front tires and uses an auger type screw with a handle on top to screw the mower into the raised positon. Upon reaching the up position a locking pin automatically snaps into the vertical support shaft to lock the machine in place. The pin has to be pulled out before you can lower the unit with the hand crank. Wheels for rolling around, folds up for easy storage and priced right.

I also have an engine jack, like you use when pulling an engine from a car/truck, and the Front End Loader on a tractor. The above mentioned jack is the easiest to use and is completely out of your way.

Not sure what type it would be called. A senior's shopping cart perhaps.

I have an I-beam attached to the ceiling in my shop with a trolley and a chain hoist on it. I use it for many things, it's so nice to be able to pick things up and not have a jack or blocking in the way. I sometimes put a jackstand under for safety. I put an extra truss in to support the extra load, and have a timber across many trusses.

Ha!

A lift like the one I linked to will safely hoist the front axle of your mower. You'll be able to get by with a lighter duty lift than I use.

Used to just grab the front and lift,
propped it with a 2 x 4. Now i use the
loader. Usually check things when changing
the oil. So i drain oil, take out the
battery and stand it on it's rear.

Best way to do it. Takes more time pulling on the chain to lift it
than to change the blades. I have two sets of blades for all of my
machines, so I just swap them out and sharpen the dull set latter
after I am done mowing. Paint your deck with a good coat of drain oil
after you clean the crud off.

Mine is similar only I used a couple of pulleys and a boat winch. Handy as all get out to change blades and wash out the deck. I let mine drip dry for a couple of hours and put it away. I usually cut grass with dew on it to keep down dust. TDF

I use floor jack and lift the back two wheels 9.5 inches. Then I put under each wheel a concrete block and a 2x6 with 2x2 on each end to keep wheels from rolling.

Then I jack up the front wheels and that gives me enough room to use cordless impact to remove blades.

This is a cheap and safe way.

The John Deere 275 I have is easy to remove the deck. The 4 wheels on the deck can turn 90 degrees by pulling and reinserting the spring loaded pins. Lower the deck onto the deck wheels, remove front bracket and detach the spring loaded belt, deck rolls out sideways. If it was light out I'd get a picture.

Chain attached to front end loader. A chain attached to a 3ph boom pole might work, I've never done it, would want to put some kind of supports under the deck for safety.

Rustyfarmall, I too have a Country Clipper with a 60inch stand up deck. I use a ceiling hoist to lift just the deck and it so easy. I clean it each mowing and paint it in the fall It's going on 8 years old and deck and whole mower looks like new. By the way I mow 5 1/2 acres of lawn each week. Love the machine with the joy stick control.
