I had a ford back hoe 555 my cousin borrowed it and now engine blown, what diesel engine can I replace it with. and does anyone have an engine to go in this back hoe. I am a perkins dealer we just became on through Bad Boy lawn mowers. Thanks for your help

Blown, like rod through the side of it? Because if not, they are easily rebuildable. I don't think you'll find anything that will fit, since I'm pretty sure ALL of the 555'S used the front of the block as the mounting point for the hardnose and front axle support, let alone finding something with the correct bellhousing bolt pattern and a flywheel that would match the torque converter. The factory engine is easy to get parts for, there a tons of them out there. You may want to pick a block that's already been bored and sleeved if you can, that way the cavitation/poor casting issues are already taken care of.

The Ford 4000-4630 tractors used a 3.3 liter engine. I don't know if there is any difference in the ones in the backhoe.

Any 3 cylinder Ford tractor engine can/will fit, but the 4xx0 series tractor engine will have the correct power spec. If you go with a tractor engine you will need to swap the pans... IIRC, the 555 will have the cast iron stressed pan. That masy or masy not include changing the oil pickup. Observe carefully..... There will be other slight generational changes in those engines but basically anything from 1965 to 1997 should fit.
