I posted this on the oliver page and got some responses but figured I would try here too. I found a narrow front end Oliver 70 with no engine. I'm thinking of buying it and putting an engine in it that will get me something close to 50 hp. Anyone have experience/suggestions about what would be the best engine to look for for this purpose?

About anything that will fit in the 'hole'.A big 4 cyl;Chevy 250/292,350 V8;Fard 300/6;Chrysler slant 6......The list is endless. That said,I have 2 'repowered' F12s. One has a 4 cylinderflathead Jeep. The other(my 'puller') has a 2.8 Litre V6 from a BroncoII. I think that one is rated at 100 HP.

I bought one with a 250 Chevy in it. Apparently it didn't fit the hole. They had made a whole new channel iron frame for it. They used the original narrow front under it,but the entire frame was new. It's easy to hook up a driveshaft, just not easy to make something fit.

I used to see a bunch of them with some variation of 6 cyl Chevy. You could try a 6 cyl Cummins from a Dodge!!!!

I bought an Oliver 70 standard with a Ford V6 and Automatic trans in it once it sort of fitted, thing about killed me a couple times so I sold the motor and trans out of it.

There is supposed to be a Continental out of a 60's Checker cab that is basically the same as the 201 continental out of the 70 but it is bigger with a cross flow head.

A former neighbor of mine had one with a Pontiac V8 in it. Had been converted back in the 70's. So far as I know it is still running. Top speed is over 50 MPH!

WHEW!! 50 MPH with a narrow front end tractor (or is it wide?) Seems like 50 MPH with tricycle tractor would be a sure death sentence!
