F150 suggestions

last March I traded my 2001 excursion with 7.3 for a new 2016 F150 with 2.7 ecoboost as I wouldn't need to tow my tractor anymore, only a 20 ft toyhauler trailer that weighs about 6000 lbs loaded. Well in August my wife and I decided to take a 3200 mile trip pulling the toyhauler, we stopped for gas and the truck engine stalled, restarted it and stalled again, this happened about 12 times going to our destination so stopped at a ford dealer and was told they couldn't do anything for us since the check engine light was not on. We headed back home and again it stalled about 15 times, so we took it to our dealer. I was called back and told to come pick it up as it was done, nothing was done took it back 4 times same thing. After the 5th time I called customer relations was told the would call back, no call, called again, no call back. finally I called my attorney and he sent a demand letter, go a call from dealer and was told to bring it in as they would put a flight recorder on it and have me drive it with the trailer. After 250 miles it stalled 4 times, brought it back to dealer and they have not found the problem. What would you do? One way or another I feel it will need to be replaced. Thanks in advance.

Have them check the fuel pump/filters, though no reason should be fouled in a new truck... I only suggest this since my pa's van(96 chevy1500) kept stalling for a time, took it to shop they hooked up their sensors and they used it as a parts getter for a time. It stopped a few times but it was quick enough of stall and with momentum of running it fired up again, so the sensors didn't find anything. then one day wouldn't even start the tech came out with the tow truck, turn the key I'm going to listen... can't hear pump. Hauled it in, new pump been good since..

Time for lemon law. I hasseled with ford over continued problems on 1996 T'Bird my daughter purchased new. Many problems. Worst was knock in engine for 1st 4 seconds after staring. Dealer fix was an oil change. They were stalling to get to end of warranty. Contacted ford customer relations. Their reply was, "handle with dealer", Finally after telling dealer my attorney would be consulted they discovered a warped piston. Dealer finally put new short block in the car. After that experience I have never entered another ford dealership.

I have worked in Ford and now GM dealers , trust me you have been very lucky. GM is not at the top of their game.

Does it stall while going down the road under power or just at idle? Is there any other symptom before the engine dies or does it die suddenly? Since you mentioned stopping for fuel does it only die after fueling or when the fuel level is near a certain amount?

Don't give up yet, it doesn't sound like they have done anything. It sounds like they have not even duplicated the concern yet, that's why they gave you the flight recorder. Those flight recorders are pretty neat they take a snap shot of every sensor and actuator related to the engine controls when you push a button. Recording can be setup different ways but usually it's a live recording of data 20-30 seconds before and after the button is pressed. I have used these before and found problems and also verified bogus customer complaints. Next step might be trying another dealer to take truck to. If it only does this pulling a trailer, would you be willing to drop truck and trailer off with the dealer?

With experience in both service departments I can agree with this statement too. Going from one dealer to the next can make a huge difference though, no matter what brand it is.

(quoted from post at 18:06:49 10/07/16) typical ford service... thats why i drive G.M. and dont need a garage.

geez you know its bad when you dont need a garage becuase its sitting at the repair shop all the time. lol

Friend says his 2016 stops and starts at stoplights/signs for better fuel economy. While on the brake the engine shuts of and as soon as you take your foot off of the gas it restarts and goes.

That will be a little embarrassing if that is what is going on! That sounds like what I would do. Lol

I have a 2015 F150 with 2.7 Ecoboost engine. So far no problems, good power towing and good milage when not towing. The auto shut off only works when not towing, in 2 wheel drive or AC not on Max. The auto shut off can be turned off with the push of a button. The auto shut off is not suppose to work when either a 4 pin or 7 pin trailer harness is connected. The pickup gave warnings about the 4 pin wiring to a utility trailer that circuits were not working, found a ground problem on the trailer, fixed and everything is ok since. Could there possibly be a trailer wiring problem and the auto shut off is turning off the engine? The auto shut off should not work with the trailer. Does the pickup automatically recognize a trailer is attached? It should. Also with mine the auto shut off only works with fairly heavy foot brake pressure, with light pressure it restarts the engine and the pickup will almost creep forward. Could there possibly be a problem in the auto shut off ? You can turn it off to try and see it the problem goes away. I really like mine after learning how it works.

Please post updates about this problem and what fixes it. Also my grounding problem was fixed by adding a ground wire from the trailer tilt bed to the trailer chassis. The hinge bolts only gave a poor ground and previous older vehicles did not have any diagnostics to recognize a poor circuit.

Our 2012 Silverado has never been in the shop for anything other that routine maintenance.

I did take the truck and trailer to the dealer twice, first time they had me drive while the tech rode along then the service manager went with neither time did it stall because they could not go for more than 20 miles. The second time they put the flight recorder on and I drove 300 plus miles, it stalled 4 times after I had driven 250 miles.

I try hitting the start stop button and it makes no difference. Also the start stop feature dose not work when trailer is plugged in, there are no codes telling me trailer wiring is faulty. I pulled another small trailer the had bulbs burned out and it did tell me so. Yesterday I got a call to pick up my truck, the dealer tech is working with Ford tech and found no solution. On my way home the start stop feature was not working at all. (drove 15 miles)
