Need 6.5 experts

I have a '96 GMC with a 6.5 Diesel engine. The check engine and check throttle flash intermittently. When you try to start it, it acts like battery is almost dead with charged batteries. When you scan it , it shows error. Is the scanner different on a diesel? Has this happen to you.

have u checked the batt. cables. they will corode under the cable covering at the battery.

I'm thinking bad battery cable, bad connection. Not enough power making it to the starter, and when trying to start the starter is taking all the power from the ECM, not leaving enough for it to think clearly.

Find the starting problem and likely the other will take care of it's self.

I wonder if it is a obdI, it should not be but its worth a try to jumper a to b and just turn the key to the start position but not all the way to engage the starter and see if the service engine light flashes a code

Check where the ground cable is bolted to the engine coming off the battery on the left side.. Mine would start 20 times then it wouldn't. Had hood up and a guy hit the starter and happen to see the spark.

Check the wonky double battery cable setup on the passenger side battery positive post. Cables must be in good shape, and connected as factory with the lead spacer and long bolt. Nothing else works correctly and will give issues.
