Grass hay seed recomendations

have an area about 1-4 to 1/3 of an acre in size, plus another area I plan to put to hay grass next year that will be about 1/3 to 1/2 acre.
These areas will be fenced in and used as grazing or lot area for a beef and wifes pet goats. Trying to stay away from brome. Was thinking a mixture
of Western wheat grass and prairie June grass. This is east central South Dakota and sometimes has to deal with drought and harsh winters.

Will be planted using my MF135 and broadcast seader.

Thanks

Hope your broadcaster can seed that little of seed. I was doing 15 lb/acre with a drill.

A broadcaster would put you in the poor house with any size of land.

Rusty,

I would include crested wheatgrass. It will green up in spring long before the other two. Although it will go dormant in summer, it will regrow again in fall if you get any fall (Sept/Oct.) precipitation. Also, it is extremely tolerant of heavy grazing and seed is readily available. There are numerous cultivars available; check with your local NRCS folks for recommendations.
