I posted this earlier today, but it must have gotten deleted with the spam! Or maybe on purpose!
I got called back for a physical and 2nd interview yesterday for a driving job. They wanted a list of all prescription medications and a printout from my CPAP machine. When I got to the medical devices provider, the lady told me that my card had no information on it. She was guessing that the part of the machine that sends information to be recorded on the card had failed. This is old technology. New machines send to a smart phone. I guess I will have to get a new CPAP machine before my DOT physical is due. It is yearly for me as I started taking blood pressure medication.

The company I interviewed with said that they would hold the job for 30 days to get new CPAP information. They would not accept the report from 6 months ago that I had ran for my DOT physical.
I decided I could not wait that long to start working. I stopped on the way home to talk to a driver recruiter that had planned on me starting orientation on this coming Wednesday. I got a little more information from him and told him I would be there. It is a little lower paying job and the region is a lot larger with bigger and older cities than what I was expecting of the other job. I guess that after I get some experience I will have a lot more opportunity for a better job. As a humorous aside, I have failed to get lots of good jobs! LOL

I think this sleep apnea is kind of like the ADHD in kids. Many people make BIG money off of telling everyone they have the problem. So they are getting PAID to "FIND" more cases of this stuff. I do not think that many kids have ADHD than years ago but doped up kids are easier to watch. The Sleep apnea in truck drivers is a good way to pass the buck if your ever in an accident.

IF sleep apnea is such a BIG problem how has mankind ever made it this far???? All the stuff they tell us is killing us should have made mankind extinct centuries ago.

I'VE got the apnea, used to wake up choking / could not breathe. Had the machine, and MAN I could not live without it. Makes all the difference. I sleep like a baby, do not wake up choking, do not annoy the wife. Get quiet peaceful sleep.

Before I had even thought of Sleep Apnea was a couple of jobs ago. I would fall asleep numerous times on the 50 mile drive to work that started at 4:45 a.m.. I would fall asleep numerous times each day. I lost my job due to the economy, when we got a new president in 2009 before I lost it due to sleeping on the job. After I started using the CPAP machine, after a sleep test, and got a different job, I did not have the issues of falling asleep on the road. I had felt myself falling asleep during a conversation, and having to ask what I did or did not say! That is a scary feeling! After I had a physical for a colonoscopy last year I was told that they thought I had a pretty open airway. I have found myself waking due to stopping breathing. My late wife also had the problem, but was told that she was too stubborn to use the mask/machine. Before we stopped sleeping in the same bed, I would hear her stop breathing, gasp, and then resume breathing. I did not use the machine this week one night when I forgot to take the machine on an overnight trip. I had other sleeping issues that night. That was the first time I did not use the machine in years.

I think the extra pounds people are carrying around cause a lot of it. Had a supervisor at my last job that had it bad. He couldn't sit at the desk for a minute before his head started bobbing.

I use a Bipap every night. Before I started using it I would wake up gasping for air. Skinny people need them also. They are not just for heavy people.

I agree with a lot of what JD says. Modern medicine is saving/prolonging lives that Mother Nature would have ended in decades past. That's good for the individual but I wonder how many bad genes we're passing on? Evolution is a "survival of the fittest" thing.

As for sleep apnea, my wife pokes me in the middle of the night sometimes thinking I'm not breathing. Then I'm wide awake and can't get back to sleep and am tired the next day at work. One of the guys who stood up in my wedding died of it at 40. Just didn't wake up the next morning.

It is a real problem. Since I've had a CPAP machine I sleep better, no more morning headaches and will likely live longer due to any heart issues not being increased. The wife likes it better since there is no more snoring that kept her awake every night, so like I said, I will live longer.
