Another what is it worth question

I have a real nice Massey Ferguson 285 with the good cab we went through the tractor pretty well when we bought it 6 years ago. we put all new cab interior and seat in it, tightened up all the steering had a valve job done and the injection pump and injectors rebuilt, cleaned and painted inside and out. It had new rear tires put on before we bought it. The tractor is in really good shape mechanically , everything works as it should , and looks really good. I just need a bigger tractor now that I am farming a little more ground. I see on tractor house there are several but none as nice as this one, they are asking around 6000-7000 for. I would like opinions as what to ask for mine.

dont know what its worth,,,but could you swing keeping it and getting a bigger one too?You may need it later and be sorry you sold such a nice one...my 02 cents

Unless you are strapped for cash, keep it. It will probably go up in value as the new diesels keep getting squeezed by the EPA.

Just turn her up and hook onto those bigger tools! But seriously when shopping for a replacement stay away from electronics unless you will be trading before it is ten years old.

Your MF 285 is nice. The trouble is the market for MF 285s is not great. The highest I have seen any sell for is around $7500-8000. Your not going to get anywhere near what you have in it. You basically restored the tractor. These days that will rarely make you any money. So I would say keep it and just buy your bigger tractor IF you have the need for two tractors. Around here keeping the mice and stuff out of tractors that are not sued much is a challenge. So If you would not be using it much then sell/trade it on what you want and take your lumps on value.

Keep away from the newer MF 3000 series. They have and had electronic troubles an that makes them sell poorly. That series of tractors helped end MF around here.

As said before Keep it, the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence.
Maybe get a cheap higher hp tractor.

I agree with the others.Keep it, if at all possible. If you're farming more acres and need a bigger tractor, you're gonna need a
second one too_One can never have too many tractors.I think if you get $5000 out of it,your're lucky.

Very nice. I agree, about keeping it. If you keep it you know what you have and what
has been done to it. I would bet $5000 would be bottom for it, $7000 maybe tops. I
looked at one just like that a year ago. Wouldnt mind one myself if I had the money.

Our neighbor had a very nice low hour one
with a Mf loader for sale for 8k. Don't know
what the final price was, but wasn't for
sale long. Didn't have a cab. Central lower
michigan.

I think JD is talking more the 3600 series. The 3545 should be a good tractor, better be cause that is my dream
tractor, almost had one but it was sold a day before I got to the dealer, and was only on his lot for 3 days.

The worst ones around here where the MF 3650s. I know of two brothers that dairy, and they owned three of them. Bought about at the same time. One of the three was just about in the shop. I sold them JD tractors but would not take the MF3650s on trade. We did haul them to an consignment auction for them. The one brother told me that they had spent more in repairs than they did when they bought them new.

As for the other models your talking about, MF 3545??? I know nothing about them as the MF 3650s soured guys so much around here that you could not give the later model ones away around here. It took them putting the SISU motors in them to finally sell some.
