I have this 3410 w/Izuzu diesel and it is hard starting. It has new starter, new bat. cables, new 550cca bat. When cold{90 degrees} I have to put bat.charger on it and put to high boost to get it started. Need a bigger cca bat. but no room.

Anyone else run into this? Yes the bat.,starter has been checked out & ok.

Is it spinning it over fast enough?

I've messed with old VW's since I was 13. I've had old buses with that problem. The issue was that the old wiring would get enough resistance that it couldn't travel from the back, to the fuse panel and switch up front, and then back and still make her start. I would add a second solenoid that would use the key switch and give the original solenoid (that threw the bendix) direct battery power. It worked every time.

Check all voltages, but it could be something like this. Check the wire direct from the battery to the solenoid. By check I mean replace with a spendy one. Put in a temporary button that gets power right to the solenoid and see if that helps. It may override any startup safety items so be careful during this test. You may have some greased up mud covered wiring that has had it with you.

I just had to do this on my 30 year old ZTR. The solenoid wire went through each safety switch and miles of wiring. Somewhere along the way something went awry. I'm the only one to use it so I overhauled the wiring.

Glow plugs are working, but does not spin over fast enough untill we put bat.charger on high boost.

What size battery cables are you using? Bigger is better, if any doubt, try replacing them with heavy duty truck cables, size 0, with crimped ends.

Is the battery grounded directly to the engine block? Was the paint scratched away under the cable? Same with the starter, clean the paint away where it bolts up, need a complete ground.

How is the charging system? It takes a well working charging system to fully charge a battery, and keep it charged. Any drain, loose belt, defective alternator or wiring will cause the battery to only have a surface charge and not serve it's full potential.

I have a neighbor with one of those. It don't start in old weather. He borrows his buddy's Bobcat. But, he is one of those people that everything he owns is the best. He will never admit that it has a problem.
