I replaced the clutch some time ago with positive results but now the clutch is slipping again. There is also a hand clutch. How can you tell which clutch is slipping?

If the pto slows under load it is the foot clutch. If the tractor slows when pulling and the pto is running at speed it is the hand clutch.

Hand clutch is far more rugged than the foot clutch. What all did you put in when you replaced the clutch? Was the free play properly adjusted?

If the free play is adjusted to about an inch and a half of pedal movement, it should be fine. If you use the clutch to adjust speed around corners or
move slowly, you are treating it incorrectly. a Clutch should be used as a quick transition device between moving, and being stopped. Intentionally
slipping it is sure to shorten its lifespan. Jim

Some Allis Chalmers had a hand clutch in the right axle that connected 2 halves of the right axle. Pull the hand clutch and the wheels stopped turning and everything else kept running. Live power in its simplest form.

On the WD and WD45 there is a hand clutch and foot clutch. Using the hand clutch gives you live PTO and live Hyds. Then on ones like the D-17 you have a hand clutch that also give you a high and low and neutral also giving you live PTO and hyds

Telling us which model of A/C you have will help us help you. I say that because there is more then one type of hand clutch on the A/C tractors and the fix is not the same on them

He said it was a 1947. The only tractor with a hand clutch at that time was the WD.

(quoted from post at 14:14:37 09/16/16) Please, someone explain to me how there can be a foot AND hand clutch. Are there 2 different systems ?

The foot clutch controls power off of the engine, the hand clutch is behind that and sometimes called a transmission clutch as it controls the transmission. On the Model CA, it is just a dry clutch that just disconnects the axle and lets the differential spin (as if one wheel was on ice). The WD and WD45 has a regular clutch pack that runs in oil and can be slipped all day long and not hurt it. On later models the hand clutch became the "power director" which had the low-neutral-high positions and could be shifted under power and on the go.

Hope this explains it better. The foot clutch is as all foot clutches right behind the engine and stops all. Behind the foot clutch is gears that run the PTO and hydraulics. Behind that is the hand clutch and behind that is the transmission. Hand clutch stops transmission only, so no movement of tractor, but since PTO and hydraulics are ahead of hand clutch they keep turning.

Been awhile since I've dealt with one but aren't WD foot clutches sunk into the flywheel and the pressure plate bolted around the risen rim of the Flywheel? If so then you need to mill down the rim where the bolts go to get it back in spec with the flywheel surface.Might be thinking of the 180 though.
