Long story I went to look at an old ladies lawnmower. She is 90 years old and is a niece to my great grandfather. She handed me several old photos. She said she was sure they were of her uncle Jud (my great grandfather)

I don't think they are. Great grandfather's steam engines e was a 25hP Aultman-Tayor. I think it's a different steamer. Dad said Jud did own a Rumely. No idea what model.

First picture is of a header.....cut only the heads off the grain and elevated into a wagon and hauled to the thresher. Don't see many pictures of a header being used. A friend has one in his museum.

Nice old pictures. Thanks for sharing. Horses look happy that somebody finally bought a machine to take up part of the work.

Love them old photos. I only remember dad threshing once and I was very young. Mom must of let my sister, brother and me go watch, but could not go any closer then the hog pasture. Remember standing in the hog pasture and looking over the fence. When dad and the guys come in for dinner he got on my sister and me for letting our brother fall asleep in the hog pasture. I guess when they cut through the hog pasture they found our brother asleep. Dad told us its a wonder the hogs didn't eat him.

Back in the day, the prevailing idea was that the bundles had to cure 30 days in the shock before they were ready to trash, so farmers resisted using headers. It was a big adjustment for farmers when combines came in and they were told that they could swath the grain and combine it 2-3 days later.

From the car it would be mid 20s? Some office depot stores will do scanning for you. Check them out. Also a good computer repair place. Hi res. 1500 dpi. Way over kill but every little thing shows up.
