Update on Applebees situation

After some thought I sent an E-mail to Applebee's corporate about the waitress shorting my change. They called me back today and apologized. They were clear that it is not the policy of applebee's to do that and said they would see that it didn't happen again. They also said they would send me a gift card. As far as I'm concerned that puts them in the right with me.

Probably just one local gal.

Several years ago, a cashier at an out-of-town Walmart in York, NE shorted me $10. I didn't realize it until I was down the road and made another purchase elsewhere.

I emailed Walmart's Corporate Customer Service and gave time, date, register location, and everything else I could think of. Believe it or not, from Bentonville, AR Walmart was able to determine that that particular register had been $10 long at the end of that shift. They sent me a $20 gift card with thanks. I don't even know if the gal did it accidently or intentionally, nor do I know if Walmart took any action.

Let's just say that Wal*Mart has a lot of security measures in place.
They don't always hire the best and brightest, but register drawers
are regularly changed out and counted. If the cashier had pocketed
your $10 they would have known that, too.

Several years ago my wife over paid at Sam's Club $150 by mixing cash and a check. When we called the store, they said they would let us know after the registers were audited. The next day we were informed we had a $150 refund coming. It was an honest mistake.

Most food chains will over compensate you if you file a complaint. One of my sons sent an email complaining about something at a McDonalds about 10 years ago. The coupons they sent him were astounding. A short time later I had a bucket of ice cream I bought that had chunks of Plexiglas, about 1/8 inch thick in it. I immediately called the producer and got ask the lot number so they could recall that batch. They ask me to let it melt and to find if there were more than the one piece I had found. They sent a mailer to me so I could send the several pieces I found after let the ice cream melt and coupons for about 50 dollars worth of stuff. The only thing I was worried about was a kid choking on something. I wasn't worried about a bucket of ice cream! About a month later I got a letter thanking me for alerting them and they told me that a shield had broken on the line cause the Plexiglas pieces to fall into the ice cream.

The short changing could have been accidental but then how many people does she serve in a shift? She does that to everyone and she could be pocketing an extra what? 4 maybe 5 bucks an hour? And most people blowing it off cause it's only 50 cents or so.

A couple of years ago I filled up the tank at a KwikTrip, put it on Discover and left. When I got home I looked at the receipt and realized I had paid for someone else's gas. The clerk had entered the wrong pump and, like a dummy, I hadn't paid any attention because I was in a hurry to get home 140 miles away. The difference was about $12 or $15. I was disgusted with myself but wrote it off as my own fault. But when I got my Discover bill (which I pay in full every month), I noticed that KwikTrip had somehow caught the error and credited me for the overpayment. I appreciated that service.

Several years ago, I got a notice from my bank that my debit card had been credited for $xx.xx.

A local independent restaurant where we are regular customers, had notified the bank they had accidentally run the card twice, and wanted the extra charges removed.

If not for their honesty, I would probably never caught it.

The bank I got my farm loan through I also had a small personal loan and last year I was busy and didn't get one payment in on time the loan officer did call me and I said would it be okay till January and pay everything off she said ok. What she didn't tell me was skipping that 250 dollar payment would cost me over 2 thousand dollars . I fought them through better business bureau but they simply side stepped the issue. The real kicker was they came up with a piece of paper with there terms but it was dated 2016. They eventually got a down check from the better business bureau. The issue was dividends apparently if you miss a payment which I did you don't get dividends for 2 years if I had known that I definitely would have made the payment but when she said ok I thought there was going to be no problem. One question I raised and got no answer was how many people don't get payments and just assume that the simply are not being payed because there is no dividends when the real reason might be different. I've only had trouble with the one person .

ALWAYS go to the bank or lending institution and talk with the loan officer to be sure all matters are clearly covered. As a former loan officer, I do not understand the "dividends" feature of which you speak.

No employee id, but did have the store and receipt. They said there was only one woman working at the time

I did talk to my loan officer why she didn't tell me the full effect is the question they refused to answer giving them a down check on services.

Glad you got satisfaction! Not quite the same, but I had an EXACT return, with receipt, to Lowes. They scanned the item, scanned the receipt and gave me a refund exactly .01 less than my receipt! I thru a royal fit, as I knew the ' money' man at my employer would catch that too. She finally thru a penny at me just to shut me up! All I can figure is it must have rounded up one penny at purchase and then the computer rounded down at time of refund! If that happened 1000 times a day it would add up pretty quick.

omahagreg-"....must have rounded up one penny at purchase and then the computer rounded down

Richard Pryor did the exact same thing in Superman III. LOL!

Jon it's good they made it right with you. They don't want a bad name. I wonder how many complaints like yours a large chain fields in one day with the thousands of waitresses and waiters they employ. When something goes haywire against the customer the waitress seems to be considered guilty until proven innocent. We expect them to be perfect. Look at how many times a waitress makes change in a day. On the other hand one of my son's former friends was caught making wrong change on purpose so they they are all honest. Just saying!

A couple of weeks ago I got gas at a card- trol pump owned by the local co-op. It's one of those stand alone pumps with no building anywhere near, just two pumps. When I was done and got the print out the amount on the print out didn't match the pump for gallons. It was a little over one gallon off. This was on a sunday of course so I couldn't call the office. I did take a picture of the print out held up to the reading on the pump as proof though. Both the ticket and the read out on the pump can be clearly seen in the picture. I then took off and went about my business. A day later I looked at the picture on the phone and someone else's name was on the print out. Either his print out I got was hung up in the printer or some computer error is delaying the printing. I haven't called the co-op or looked at the credit card bill on line though I plan to.

Stayed at a Super 8 motel recently and the charge was $92 first nite. Decided to stay another nite, assumeing the price would be the same, but the charge was $131 for the second nite and the maids didnt have to do anything to the room for the second nite stay. We left the motel when it was raining and didnt even think about picking up the ticket. Didnt realize this untill I got the bill emailed to me. They did not have me sign.

Just notified them,so will be interesting to see what happens, but I am sure I will have to pay.

Sat evening my wife decided to order carryout from Applebees. She ordered a chopped chicken salad and I ordered an oriental chicken salad. Got them home, I had no chicken on my salad hers had a few small pieces, so she called them and spoke to the manager. He said he wasn't sure how that happened but he said give us a few minutes and you can come back in for two more salads and a free desert with ice cream. Well we live out of town so it's not a simple trip around the block to pick this up, it's not that far though so everything worked out OK and the ice cream didn't melt before she got home.

jon- last friday we went to stc to buy a new laptop, followed by dinner at Texas Roadhouse. We both ordered ribs (they were really good). I ordered a beer. Didn"t get it, even after 2-3 waitress visits. Manager came by, said my beer was free (dinner was almost over- beer came later). He comped me with Veteran discount, 10%, free beer, and 2 certs for appetizers on our next visit.

Hey -if you"re ever headed to Nelson"s at Clearwater- give me a shout!

Just a couple more things to take into consideration:

If you buy anything seasonal (ie: Christmas, Halloween, Easter, etc.) from Menards, if you try to return it out of that season they automatically take a 20% restocking fee. They tried to do that to me one year when I tried to return a couple Halloween items. The said that it was no longer Halloween season because they were selling Christmas items now. I said Halloween is still two weeks away. I received a full refund.

Same kind of deal at Toys R Us: buy something out of season and right on the receipt in bold type it states that if you try to return this item you will take a huge restocking fee, but they tell you exactly how much you will receive should you decide to return the item. Only learned about that because my Mom wanted a Halloween Charlie Brown movie for my niece and nephew and I picked it up for her during Christmas time.

Remember once at a pizza hut took an older guy out for dinner waitress said he's paying for dinner before I got to far she took my money she said he gets a senior citizens discount you can't .
One thing about reading this thread is that we sometimes forget that we have a tendency to forget the goodness that's still out there we seem to want to remember the bad. That's what I always thought when ever I do a business deal if you short someone they remember it forever

I had thought I was shorted on a Walmart visit so I called the store. They had me on video receiving the right amount. They could see the amounts on the bills. My ooops Henry

18 years ago I lived in Littler River, SC and drove to Loris SC every day. I always stopped at the same gas station to get fuel. One day I pulled in and put card in, everything worked and I got 20 gals and left. Three days later, same thing. Three days later again I did same and before I left a sheriff car blocked me in and a clerk came running out. Said I opwed for three purchases. About $120. I explained to them about putting card in and pump worked. She said card reader didn't work and since they knew the van, they energized the pump as I pulled in. I paid up and now I always get a receipt . What a hassle.

Wall mart has that stupid rotating bag holder that half the time you leave the store you forget one of your bags and have to go back later to retrieve items you were charged for.
