My barn has fleas. Previous owner had goats and hay on the floor. I removed the hay down to the soil which is sandy. I have treated with copious amounts of bifen xts, malathion, Bayer complete insect killer, dawn dish soap, and a growth regulator.

I am currently loosing the battle and the war. The temperature has been very hot here with lots of humidity which the fleas love. As the weather is getting cooler it is time to start some remodeling but would like to kill the fleas and not carry then into the house.

Any suggestions? I was thinking some diesel fuel and motor mix might not hurt, as I have used everything else except napalm...

You might try putting a coffee/end table or such in the shed, place a table lamp on the table, place a dinner plate with soapy water underneath the lamp and leave the lamp on at night. You will kill hundreds of them every night.

One thing comes to mind... get some of those insect bombs at Lowes, or WallyWorld, shske them up real good and set off a half dozen or so. Set them off in sequence so you don't breathe the stuff, as you back out the door. . Turn off all electrical first, and let things sit for a day or so. Cheap, and it might work.

Go buy some lime, not the pellets but
the powdered lime and sprinkle all over.
I promise you that it works, it will
burn them up and when the eggs hatch out
the babies will burn up too, should see
results quickly in a day or so. You will
be very satisfied, I've been there and
done that !!!!!

Continue to use the Bayer product every 3 days. You can only kill preadult fleas. Nothing gets the eggs or larvae effectively. Fleas require a
blood meal before they mate and lay eggs on their host. Eggs eventually fall off host to ground. Treat all animals in the barn especially cats.
You are getting a new hatch on a daily basis! I use the Bayer product at considerable above suggested rate. After two weeks, you can reduce
to every 5 days. You will be on the winning side in 3 weeks. But, you must continue every 3 weeks for at least 90 days. Retired from
Veterinary Medicine and fighting fleas for 39 years

Go to your local feed store, and get a bag, or two of food grade Diatomaceous Earth. Spread it around everywhere you have flea problems, the Diatomaceous Earth is razor sharp on the microscopic level, and when the fleas get it on them it gets into the joints of their exoskeleton which cuts them open, and kills them. Food grade Diatomaceous Earth is not harmful to animals should they should eat it, some people eat a little bit of it with some food each day.

Thought I would tell you some more about my flea experience, I've tried every chemical known to man, had multiple pest company's come out and spray over the years to no avail, I've sprayed diesel fuel, gasoline, tried the dawn soap, you name it and I've done it brother. The thing about fleas is that once you kill them with a particular poison then you have made them immune to that poison, you've killed them but their eggs are in the soil and hatch out in 7-10 days and the new fleas are completely immune to what you sprayed earlier. I have been flea free for 8 years in my kennels and three barns now and once I dusted with farm lime (powder) that knocked them out permanently, haven't even bothered to put any lime out this year at all, I have a german shepherd and 3 dachshunds that are yard dogs and stay outside year round here in south Alabama in the flea capital of the world, you wont find a flea on them and I don't treat them for fleas, I sprinkle a little garlic powder on their food every day and it repels fleas. Lime is very cheap too, last time I bought some at Tractor Supply I believe I paid about $4.00 for a 20 lb bag, go get you some lime and put the smack down on those fleas.......

I think the type of lime Grayrider is saying is for morter mix. Dry lime or burnt lime. Nasty stuff but makes screaming white seams between your bricks when you are doing cement work. That just might be your ticket. Wear gloves and do not breath the stuff. Take a look on U--tube on how to control fleas. There are a lot of pretty good videos to watch on there. Some silly stuff too but go check it out.

We found that Borax also dries out the fleas and kills by dehydration. It took several boxes to do the carpet in our house. The fleas just laughed at the flea bombs! We repeat bombed at recommended interval. I also spread borax in the dog house and the building the cats call home.

I fought fleas with the same products ,sevin, malithon, with the same results.I asked an old timer at the feed store what did
people in the early days use before the modern chemicals were available. He told me they used sulphur. So I purchased a few bags
,put it in my 3point fertilyzer distributor and applied once. Did not have another flea problem for years. Use it often.

No, its "agricultural lime", not brick lime, and someone mentioned Borax, I've tried that that too but didn't work for me.

boric acid guaranteed. I had flees few years ago cause of the cats. Vet told me to walk accross my floor with white
socks on and shorts see how many black spots were on the socks.. 1-2 was bad I had like 10-20. I went to walgreens
purchased Boric Acid. its a white powder in a white with red/black label. Spread that on the floor as you would any
type of powder and broomed it in the carpet and floor. HOLY COW it worked great. No more cats in the house. I have a
dog thats allowed in basement. I really works.. Re apply every year just for giggles and chuckles..

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. Here is what I have done. I spread a gallon of powdered sulfur and enough lime to make the floor of the barn solid white. Now I have to hurry up and wait to see if it works.
