Te-20 enough horsepower?

Have a te 20 never hooked it to my square baler nh270 but was wondering if it would have enough power for it been running the baler on my fathers 1655 Oliver but would rather not have to borrow a tractor if I don't have to there are some hills around here but mostly flat for terrain

A te 20 with pull it in light wind rows but will work real hard. If you decide to try it make sure your brakes are good to perfect because you may need them.

You say your ground is fairly level and if you are dropping bales on ground and windrows aren't to heavy you should have any trouble.

Not familiar with a TE20 or the NH270, but I baled hay with my brothers TO20 and my New Holland 68 and it did fine, even with a non-functional governor.... Not having a live PTO is a pain, but you quickly learn how to pop out of gear without letting the baler stall.

The Massey would do ok on really flat ground.
The 1655 Oliver would be a couple of orders of magnitude safer on those hills.
Do you have lots of life insurance?

Bill, the TE20 was built in England before Ferguson started building them in the USA as the TO20 (TE is tractor England and TO is tractor overseas as in USA) They kept building them in England long after the TO was built in the USA I think as the TE2080 and later to equal the TO30 it was TE2085

You don't need an overriding clutch on a baler - that is already built into the drive train of the baler.

I don't see where using a TE20/TO20 would be much of an issue on baler like a 273. As long as everything is in good shape - but that is the issue running any equipment. The transmission driven PTO will keep you busy.

You can always give it a try if you don't make the windrows too big. It might be easier to you hire your dad and his tractor to drive the baler while you stack bales on a rack. Picking up bales off the ground is a lot of extra work.

Thanks for the thoughts going to try it I have to do some custom bales for a guy (100 or so ) kind of a far drive with the tractor so was going to haul the te20 then go back and pull the baler over there I don't have anything to try it on at my place so I will find out if it doesn't work I will haul the tractor home and take half the day to get the other one and I have good life insurance lol my wife would be a rich lady if I died haha and never owned a bale wagon always loaded them on a car trailer later after the field had been completely baled
