hey guys

Farm auction two miles down the road today at 9:00 am, personal property only ground sales 13th. It was and still is pooring down rain. My question is, what do they normaly do,(1)go ahead with sale(2)stop and try to wait it out or (3)reschedale.

I have never seen a sale canceled. They might stop for a few minute if it is raining too hard but usually they just keep selling around here. Just stood in the rain most of the day this week at a sale.

I experienced one re-schedule. It was in the spring more than 50 years ago. It was due to a snowstorm. Very few people showed up, and the owner and auctioneer decided to cancel and re-schedule.

I went to one that was postponed, but it wasn't due to the weather. The old gal had to be hospitalized the night before and she didn't want anybody on her place while she wasn't there.

I went to an auction in near blizzard conditions. Someone suggested that the auctioneer should cancel and re-schedule. He told them: "No, the people that came out came here to buy, so we'll have the auction". I guess that the people were there to buy because prices went higher than I could pay.

I have never seen a farm auction put off due to weather unless there is a day's notice. Too many people coming from miles away would be disappointed. Sometimes they will try to do the sale inside a big shed or quonset for some of the smaller stuff.

My experience is that an auction in the rain, or a snowstorm, just makes things go faster. And usually not any cheaper. Probably less people will show if it is the only good day in two weeks. Then they'll
be home getting caught up.

Winter sales up here have a reschedule date mentioned in case of a snow storm.

I've never seen one postponed tho, the auction staff hates, just hates doing that.

I went to one the fog was so thick couldn't hardly see what the auctioneer was pointing to, couldn't see for driving for miles and miles. Rain and
snow, thry keep auctioning.

Had 2 where a person passed out, heart issues most likely, one they paused 5 minutes to get the fella dragged away from the hayrack, the
other they sold the tractor the ill person was leaning against the rear wheel on the ground. They even started the tractor while he was sitting
ther gasping....

Another they kept selling while a pickup caught on fire in the grassy field everyone was parked in, folks were scrambling to get their vehicles
away from the one as the tires blew up.

Sure is interesting to hear the auctioneer yell above the sound of sirens, ambulance or fire.......

I've seen one rescheduled due to a weather event and that was in part due to law enforcement twisting the auctioneer's arm about the travel conditions. That and emergency volunteers were needed.

I went to a sale here in town this past summer and it was raining. Then it got really windy and the tornado whistle started going off. Auctioneer kept going, but he went a lot faster per item! Couldn't believe they didn't stop the sale...

Few years back my neighbour's auction sale was postponed for a week or so. We'd had a lot of rain and his place was about 7 or 8 miles off the pavement. Too much rain on these old clay roads makes them almost impassable (not as many 4 x 4's back then). I think they announced the postponement a day or so before the scheduled date and in the end he had a successful sale.

in Indiana, we do what needs attention , our auctioneers call out for Dr. 911callers, fire fiters .,and instruct where to takecover , we don't disrespect folx that are in need of medical care,. and when a fire or tornado emergency occurs ,. the almighty dollar can burn with it for all we care ,,. life is much more important ,,.I can only recall 2 auctions post[poned in my 59 yrs .. and it was always due to extreme wind cold with blizzard forxast and the other was 6 inches of rain in the forcast ... and I have gone to a bunch of auctions
