Rain and Moving Grain

Got two days in the wheat field last week before damp weather hit. Wheat was dry by the second day but so hot I was worried it might spoil so I ran the bin fans a few days. Got lucky and the daytime highs dropped down in the 60s. After the first 7 tenths rain I moved the cool grain to another bin to free up the aeration bin for the next hot wheat. I set up a couple of augers to transfer it without using the truck. Worked well but then we got another 8 tenths rain yesterday so no harvesting for a while.

Thanks! It was not ideal feeding a ten inch auger with a seven but I idled the tractor down on the 10 and ran the 7 pretty much full open. Moved over a thousand bushels in about a half hour without a truck. Saved cutting up the yard when its wet.

How's the crop turning out, Rusty? Nice crops around here except for our little corner of...heaven - two hail storms didn't leave much. Fusarium is bad, elevators are trying to figure out how to deal with it. Some durum is grading "sample", aka worthless. Rain has shut things down, too, about an inch over the past 5 days.

I have one 8000 bu. bin that the dryer unload auger won't reach. I filled it same as you. Really cuts down on set up time if you have a swing hopper. I did it a couple times with poly hopper. You have to have everything spot on and that takes a lot of adjusting.

Rusty about ten years ago or so when we were harvesting in Canada two us sat twiddling our thumbs north of Humboldt SK for days waiting for the rain to quit while the rest of the crew was at Kamsack running through the acres every day. We finally got going on some tough short barley at Humboldt after sitting reading magazines for a week but it was a struggle. The barley was being piled on the ground along HWY 20.

No durum here but the wheat I've done looks pretty good. Bushel weight is about 62.5 and good colour. Not sure on the fusarium but no doubt I have some. I'm seeing ergot too. Sample is sent off to CGC but I won't hear the result for a while. No doubt this rain will bleach and lose weight on the wheat but thats farming.
