I have a international 340 utility. Installed new push button starter switch .The tractor cranks over but has no spark when the switch is being pushed. When I let off the switch I have spark. I would appreciate anyone's help. The tractor started before the switch was replaced.

If the battery is getting weak, or the cables are small (like for 12volt cars), or the starter is dragging inside, or a bad connection, the voltage will drop while cranking to the point that spark stops. Cranking voltage measured across the battery should be 5.8 or more while cranking. Jim

Thank you. I will check the voltage .The tractor is at my hunting property so I can't check right away. I thought I may have wired the new switch wrong.

Since the switch is the only thing that has been changed recently that's where I would look. Sounds to me that you have a wire on the
wrong terminal.

Thanks. I changed one wire at a time but there is always the possibility. I appreciate everyone's ideas.

I will have to look this weekend. I'm pretty sure there are at least 4 wires on this one.

Found my notes from last year when I worked on it.
Looks like 3 wires,.key switch to start button on same terminal hot wire go off to coil. On the other side of push button wire goes to starter solenoid.
Does anything sound wrong with this?

Can you crank the engine with a test light on the coil wire-have a helper maybe? If your notes are correct, then if it is cranking it should have power, and it also should have power any time the key is on.And that sounds properly wired, too.
That said-I would look at the wire to the coil at the starter switch for poor connection.Mark

Thanks, I hope to check it out this weekend. If you pull start it it fires right up. It just seems to kill the spark when the starter switch is depressed. And if the motor is still rolling over fast enough when you let off the starter switch it will fire up.
