Got my combine running

Finally got a chance to get back to my combine today. Didn't take too long to get it running like a top. Turned out I had 3 problems, I had put the plug wires one hole off and that made it hard to time. Plus the points had slipped and were too close to work. Once I got those 2 things fixed she started right up and ran good. Then when it got warm she started acting up again so I put the new coil on and she is now running like a top. Thanks for all the advice tho!

Once I got her running I decided to put the corn head on that I picked up out in Wyoming on my trip a couple weeks ago. This is a real nice head with very little use, it even has paint left on the snapping rollers and stripper plates. This head is much heavier and so I'll need to get some weights for the rear. It's so light in the rear that when I drove it down a hill it tipped right down in the front. Not goin to work like that so I'll have to find a way to get some weight on it. If anyone has any wheel wheights for 16" wheels I could use some.

How big is the hopper on that machine? 175-200bu corn might fill that up real fast.

Looks nice

Corn special with heavier axles and some other parts. Otherwise it's the same machine as a 1060.

On my 1660 JI Case machine I stuck a piece of 2" x 3" plow beam in the pipe the rear axle is on and put three front weights from a 930 on it to keep the rear down with the flex or corn heads on.

Jon , Massey has axle weights that might fit on that axle. They sit on the axle , cast iron and about 10 inches wide . they wrap around the top and two sides. I used a pair on a 45 EB combine.

Jon F. Wish I still had my 660 i had yrs ago when farming in preble co. ohio.Great machine. Richard

Might want to time the gathering chains so that the larger links are offset. Good looking machine. Ben

My Gleaner F was an optimistic 100bu in the 80s, the F2 was realistic 110, the F3 120. A 4 row wide head needed a wagon on both ends, spent as much time unloading as combining. Always almost made a round in some fields, as I got a bigger combine yields crept up so never got ahead.

Got a M3 a few years ago, 170bu hopper, but 6 row narrow head. Could just fit a round on maybe, then 2015 was best year ever, so back to dumping both ends..... Can't complain about record yields of course! :)

This year I found an L3 combine, not sure of the hopper size, but corn looks average at best, so shouldn't be a problem.
