Tractor information/Rim size

Hello,
I'm told the tractor I have is a 1939 Ford 9N. The plate on the tractor is not readable anymore. It is a 3 speed plus reverse with no high/low range and has foot pegs. It also has the clutch and left brake pedals on the left side and the right brake pedal on the right side, making it impossible to use both at the same time.
My rim is rotted out around the valve stem pretty bad. I need to replace it but have a question regarding the size. On the tire it says 12.4 - 28 on 11" rim. But when I measure the rim across, outside to outside, it measures 10". What size rim should I get; 10" or 11"?
Thank you.

It's very common for tires and rims to be mismatched. Usually one inch one way or the other is not a problem.

Also, measuring rim width can be difficult. The distance between(inside) the outer edges of the rim, where the tire bead seats, is the rim width. Fortunately, most new rims have the size stamped right into them.

If your rim is only rusted around the stem, it may be repairable.

Thanks, The other side measures 10", outside to outside.

Bob, This rim is pretty bad. I think I can see the tube. I try not to look!

Do not know where you are but that rim is in fact very repairable BTDT many many times. Ask around and I bet you can find a guy who can clean that up and then repair it with some welding. I have a rim in front of my shop tha tI am repairing right now that makes that one look like nothing is wrong with it

Thanks,
I have a very good welder who I work with on a regular basis. I just never thought it could be repaired and hadn't asked him about it.
So, I've never done this before. How do I go about removing the calcium and tire? Bring it to a tractor tire dealer? I have a couple of those around me. Who knows how long this tire has been on the rim. Could be original, for all I know. I'm thinking just breaking the bead and trying to remove the tire might be enough to collapse the area around the stem. No?

I do all my own tractor tire repairs but I have also done tires for a living off and on for years. Send me an e-mail and I will send you a page form an old owner manual that explains how to take that tire on and off the rim.

As for the CACL If you want to save it and put it back in you can use a drill pump and pump it out and then when the rim and tube are fixed pump it back in. You will need to get the adapter for the valve stem.

I'm thinking you will never get that wheel and tire seperated without busting wheel other places. Afterall, the remainder of wheel is just as old as that spot.
