Diesal tractor cuting out..

Cutting hay with 1180 Massey Ferg yesturday.. This is a diesal tractor.. power started cutting out under load...starts to bog down kinda like a gas would if it was miss timed.. Thought I was running out of gas.. ran to shed got 5 gal put in it.. Ran for awhile then did the same thing. So figured that I wasnt out of gas something else.

I am not that familiar with this as i am with my j.d. THing is after shut off and turned back on it runs fine..

diesels loose rpm for 2 main reasons.

1, gross overload ( lugging ).
2, fuel obstruction.

appears like clogged fuel filters. if its diesel hope u didnt put gas in it!

A lot of times with clogged filters it will push pretty heavy black smoke out the exhaust pipe.

nope I have a 55 gal tank with diesel just for this tractor.. Ive done some stupied stuff not that yet...

THanks all.. Kinda figured this but always like passing things around this sight on things Im not sure of..

This particular tractor has the inner and outer air filter and two gas filters.. one with glass the other is basically a smaller "oil" type metal screw on filter..

Will take a peak at all.. thank you...

Not sure if this applies to your injector pump, but some will have internal seal failure that pressurizes the pump case, somehow cutting down/off the fuel supply. When you went for more fuel, the pressure bled off, it ran until the pressure came back up.

Just a theory...

Look up Dieseltech, he can diagnose and fix it.

Hello mss3020,

Sounds like a fuel delivery issue. Time to check the DIESEL FUEL filters!
