I see that Tim Tebow is holding a workout in Los Angeles on August 30th to get MLB teams interested in signing him to play Major League Baseball. There is alot of optimism out there, but also the usual back biting by a few jerks in the sports media:

From NBC Sports: The tryout will happen next Tuesday in Los Angeles, according to multiple reports. All 30 MLB teams have been invited. The real question is whether all (or some . . . or any) will actually attend.

From The Washington Post: Tim Tebow wants to play baseball. This won't end well

What is wrong with these people? Give the guy a chance. He's still young enough to compete, was a Heisman Trophy winner. Runs a 4.7 40 yard dash. Even if he's mediocre he will sell tickets. People will be curious just to see a sports figure who doesn't use the f-bomb.

As so often happens, if a person happens to profess traditional Judeo Christian beliefs such as supporting traditional marriage etc. etc., the abundant media and Hollywood elites will consider him part of some hate group or a right wing radical or religious zealot and laugh him off and discount any accomplishments. What happened their preaching diversity and tolerance and acceptance?? NOT if you disagree with them lol YOU CANT MAKE THIS STUFF UP

The world is totally upside down of the values and morals and Christian beliefs when I was raised, its Bizarro World lol and my side is loosing grrrrrrrrrr

I see POOF soon lol

The guy has not played baseball for 12 years . The media attention any team that got by him would be a distraction , not a positive thing. The minors are filled with highly skilled players who never left the game. He could possibly make a minor league team where his popularity would fill seats in a stadium , but not pro baseball material. He'll get his chance.

I used to root and pull for John Elway and the
Denver Broncos up until John-boy LIED to Tim
Tebow. Now, as far as I care, the Broncos can
permanently replace the Saints forever as the
basement dwellers in the NFL.

Boo to John Elway!

Never thought too much of Tim as a football player. He may have won the Heisman but he hasn't done much sense to brag about. And most fans don't care what kind of language a player uses as long as the team they play for wins.

(quoted from post at 07:41:14 08/25/16) Well since he is religious and even goes down on 1 knee to pray he was ostracized.

He was ostracized because he wasn't that good at football at the NFL level. If he had turned out to be the superstar that he was hyped to be, he would've been just fine. Just because you excelled in college doesn't mean you will make it in the pros.

If you pay any attention to your local NFL team at all, 2/3 of the draft picks each year get cut before the season even starts. 90% don't make it past the first season.

Except for there are more than a few quarterbacks in the NFL right now that are not as good. Hard to forget the Bronco's playoff win over Pittsburgh in 2012 with the 80-yard TD first play in overtime.

And what did he follow that up with? Lackluster seasons.

Actually they never "hyped" him to be that great. His abilities were suited for the way the game is played in college - his NFL career was always in question. But in 2011 the Bronco's allowed him to start (after going through all their other QBs) his "college style" worked perfectly. The Bronco's offensive line was HORRIBLE that year. The QB had to be the fastest guy on the field or he was going to get creamed every play (like the other QBs that the Broncos tried) and he had to be tough and make his own plays because dropping back in the pocket and attempting to throw would have made you the star of your own concussion video. NFL QBs are not supposed to double as a running back but that was his style. Tebow took a team that was going nowhere but home and brought them to playoffs after they benched the quarterback chosen by John Elway. What was funny was the next year Elway brought in Peyton Manning their only play off win was a year earlier with they guy they traded.....

I can't stand ESPN and I have gotten to where I can't stand the NFL. Why is it mandatory that they have a woman on the sidelines interview coaches? Why did the NFL DEMAND that the Rams draft Michael Sams? When they can't even have Hank Williams sing the intro the game has gotten to wussified.

About the only thing I really remember about Tebow is him crying like a baby when he got cut.

I don't necessary want to see him fail. Just could really care less about him. The kid at the counter at my local fast food joint is far more important in my life than any pro athlete! They come and go. I really could care less. Other than providing a little entertainment they do nothing else. The kid at the fast food place at least gets me a meal.

Rick

old cantankerous,

I think you could say the same about the kid at the fast food counter. They come and go. If you eat there often enough to see the same face you may not be around much longer. LOL

Actually I don't eat fast food very often at all, less than once a month.

As far as little Timmy goes? Don't really care where he eats. He can eat fast food 3 meals a day if he wants to! IMO he needs a large dose of grow up and move on. If he wants to pray he should go to church. If he wants to be a pro athlete he needs to pull up his big boy pants and do something. IIRC he was offered a position other than QB and turned it down. Know what? Elway has something Tim will never have, a super bowl ring!

Rick

(quoted from post at 13:28:34 08/25/16) Little Timmy? 6'-3" 265 lbs. You?

Yea little Timmy, 6'5" about 270 here. But I wasn't referring to his physical size. If he's going to act like a child then he'll always be little Timmy to me. No should he ever decide to man up and move on with his life then more power to him.

Rick

I like Tim Tebow, but why does he think that he can play major league baseball? Very few folks can play major league baseball.

I'm sure that there are sports related jobs out there that Tim Tebow can get and thrive doing. I doubt, however that major league baseball is one of those jobs.

Who cares?
Baseball, like football, is just another
silly game - watched by people who never
quite grew up.
Sports fans are an odd bunch. They have a
gazillion venues to watch, listen and
discuss their dumb games but that's still
not enough for them. They have to pollute
Every place they go with their meaningless
sports talk.
Sheesh.

I thought the Twins were looking at him. Wouldn't most of us take a few million dollars to play some kind of game if we had the chance. I just read a column where one of his former team mates said he was a terrible quarter back but a real great guy. I know a few mechanics, farmers etc that are not really very good at their chosen profession, but they are still great people.

The "Twinkies"? Well that's one club that it won't hurt to have someone new in the lineup  !

I think I read the same article. Don't see how he can play baseball, having to stop and pray every time he makes a base safe........ Him hitting a home run could be an all night affair......

Rick

I can't figure out why he just doesn't become a tight end and continue to play football. Good size, good speed, good hands. It isn't rocket science.

Weellll...I do like to watch a slow game of baseball, it's a break from the stress of a hard day on the farm. Your last sentence could be said for just about any hobby that a person is interested in that is of no interest to someone else. I've been to the feed store and had to listen to horse show enthusiasts. And I've been to the parts store and had to listen to tractor pullers. I have no interest in either but to call it meaningless...to me maybe but not them.

He probably has a better chance of making the cut to play for the Saint Paul Saints than to play for a major league team. Would he be happy playing on a farm team?

Why is it mandatory that they have a woman on the sidelines interview coaches?

Why? Because a goodly portion of the male population like to look at a hot blonde and/or certain parts of her anatomy. That's why.

The NFL can also say, "Look, we're equal opportunity! We hire women too!"

They're not going to put him on a major league team right away anyway. He'd have to earn his spot playing in the minors.

(quoted from post at 19:06:16 08/26/16) What is a Tim Tebow? Have no idea, never heard that name if it is a name.

Former pro football player who's career wasn't as good as he thought it should be. When he was cut they offered him another position, tight end I believe and he refused saying something about God told him he was supposed to be a quarterback. Seems he's full of himself and thinks he should be a pro in something. So after a brief stint as a high school baseball player he's trying to get MLB to look at him now that he hasn't been involved in baseball for almost 10 years.

Got a web page too. At least he thinks highly of himself.

Rick

> God told him he was supposed to be a quarterback

Ever notice nobody says God told them to be a ditch digger or septic tank pumper? Never mind that we need a lot more of those guys than we need pro football quarterbacks. And it seems the Lord is a bit of a spammer: this year he told sixteen different guys to run for prez.
