Golden jubilee

I need some help guys. I bought a jubilee about 3 months ago. Great condition considering. I've been trying to get this beast mechanically sound. Now I'm up against a wall with the hydro. I changed the fluid and has been a bear every sense. I used 134d and it seemed to have some issues with lifting when it got heated up. Some not knowing better I drained it and dumped 80w90 in it after reading forums. Bad idea. Foamed up like a dog with rabies. So I let it drain for about 4 hours and ran a fresh dose of 134 in it and I'm having a really bad growling from the pump and there is light foam on the stick. Still lifting issues. My local guy tells me the pump is on it way out. And said the vane pump is crap. I'm thinking it last 60 years. Why not rebuild for another 60. But he wants me to switch over to a piston system. I called yesterday tractor and a kit is $380 for a cartridge reman kit. That's cheaper than a switch over to a piston system. Throw me a bone. I need your help.

I did. I think. I put the air compressor to the dip stick hole while it was cold and without foam. Started it with pressure in the system and ran it up and down a few times. The other thing I've noticed was when there is compressed air added to the system it operates like a chameleon and it also removes the growl

Is chameleon supposed to be champion?

Auto correct. But could be compared to a chameleon. The oil changes color and you never know how it's going to act. The one thing that's for sure is it runs slow until I blow air into the dip stick hole

I have a Jubilee with a piston pump. Check,
you may not be able to get the hydraulic
pipes you need to convert.

Go to the Ford site. Someone there has made
an adaptor to retrofit a new pump and hoses.

Not sure who.

Since it develops pressure with oil being pushed into the pump, I would suspect that it is sucking air at the pump on the suction side. Before spending the long dollar for the kit I would check to see if a new O-ring would cure it.

Oil foam means you have water in the sump.
Not all the oil drains out. Try putting the
front wheels higher. Then remove inspection
plate an use a rag to dry out.

(quoted from post at 06:33:55 08/23/16) Wouldn't i see a leak externally

Probably but not necessarily. On the suction side it would be drawing air in so no oil would come out while running. A tiny bit would probably seep out when shut off.

A friend has one of those and he had trouble with the hydraulics. It turned out to be an O ring had
some how come off the lift piston and pieces had got into the system. Someone had replaced the pump
and the new one had some debris in it too. We never did figure out how the O ring had come off the
piston, maybe somehow it had over extended and sheared off the O ring when it retracted.

It's a rotary style setup. I've changed the oil 3 times now thinking it was water in the sump. So I'm not thinking that would be the issue. The foam does go away about 30 minutes after I shut the engine off. Where is the o-ring your talking about. That would be a cheap try anyway

Where the larger of the two steel tubes bolts onto the pump

Will any normal black o-ring work. Or does it have to be special material. I think I have a o-ring kit in the shop from harbor freight it has lots of sizes to choose from

I would agree. I have two Jubilee's, both with piston pumps.
The only problems they have had is sucking air at the O-rings.
Either at the pump or at the bottom of the sump.
If you have a rust hole, or any other hole in the suction line,
that would obviously do it too.
The conversion kit sold on the Ford forum is made by TheOldHokie.
Here's a Link to his website.
He's an awesome guy if you decide to go that direction.
I have a piston pump and the lines to go with it also.
I might be convinced to part with them but they would not be cheap.

I'm to understand that the vane setup pushes more fluid than the older piston style. Unless you go with the 600 hydro pump setup. What I'm thinking is if this pump lasted over 60 years under who know what kind of servicing schedule. Why not get it back up running. I just need to figure out what is causing the issues. And there isn't a stitch of rust anywhere on this tractor. Not on the outside anyway. Lord know there are enough oil leaks. I guess rubber has a expiration date like most things do
