help! gasket leak!

well clean my oil pan and engine on my 1948 farmall cub ,bought new oil got my 1153 filter from Napa and put all togather and only problem I am having is the gasket around the oil filter cap is leaking I've tried using the rubber gasket then cork and on and on I just can't figure this thing out ?#%*^ /: about to go crazy I've snug up the cap tight but don't want to go to to far with it as I've heard they break so.... I'm at a stand still ? I've read some post about this same issue but no real solution ? any one out there in tractor land have the key ?

If you are talking about the top where the bolt is there should be a copper gasket . At the bottom where the can seats there is a gasket in the groove that some times has to be dug out first. Hopefully this is how I remember. There could be two there which happens some times. Hopefully this helps you.

no the bolt hole around there I have a washer for its around the bottom where the cap meters the top of the filter housing . I got new rubber gasket with new filter but no luck so I e tried cork and still no luck ?

Sorry, went back and reread. The cap has a spring loaded notches so you can only turn it so far. At least on the newer ones. Is the breather plugged?, because it is not a real tight fit and the crankcase should not pressurize. Roger

Wes. Is your oil filter cap (where the long bolt goes through) Made of diecast metal (potmetal) if so it's bent/distorted replace it with a later model steel cap. I had the same problem with my 48 cub. Dave F.

If you take the gasket off the cap and turn it upside down; you will see that
the flat surface around the outside is no longer flat and the cap itself is no longer domed up
toward the hole for the bolt. Overtightening the bolt has pushed the center of the cap
down and curled the edges of the gasket surface upward. I have pounded mine back twice
(carefully and with some finesse) using a large piece of pipe and a wood dowel.
YMMV - no guarantee........
