Oats in the bunker silo

I talked about doing this last year but didn't. My oats we so weedy this year,I knew they'd just heat in the bin, then I'd have to shovel it back out and run it through the grinder mixer anyway. I piled all of them against one wall in the bunker for now. I'll be chopping corn in four weeks or so. If those oats crust over, fine and dandy. Either way,I'll just push them in to the corn silage as I'm pushing and packing and mix the whole hot mess together and let it all ferment. If there's sprouts and small seedlings in it,oh well,it'll all be silage. They'll eat it.

If I had some on the green side I would throw preservatives on top of the wagon load and running it up the elevator it would mix . It had a different smell but the cows loved it and it didn't go bad even in a metal bin.

I remember visiting a farm where the farmer sowed oats on top of the bunker silo after it was filled. The oats would sprout and grow. He would mix them right in the TMR
