Hi this is my first post I am new to this site. My question is how is the best way to tell what year it is? I have a 53-54 super h? the tag says model SH
serial no.7230 J
the block number is C-164
Also is the MW Clutch original? to this tractor?
Thanks for any help

Should be a 1953. The M&W clutch was an option, usually dealer installed when new,but could have been added any time in it's working life

Somebody tell me if I'm right or wrong. Didn't the 53 have the battery under the gas tank and the 54 had it under the seat?
I'd always been told that was the way to tell the difference.

My '53 'stage one' Super H has the battery under the gas tank, and belly pump. The SN is 23**The later 'stage two' has the battery under the seat and live 'mag' pump

Thanks for the help. It does have the battery on the left side below the fuel tank. Still the 6 volt system also. Can anybody tell me info on the MW Clutch should I leave it or take it off? and if I leave it what is the advantage? also if I remove it what would I need to replace it with? Thanks

The M&W clutch is NOT factory but is desirable to have if it works. Allows one to pull that hand lever and stop the motion of the tractor while maintaining power to the PTO shaft. Very useful for baling, a pull type combine, or any other PTO powered where you need to stop yet keep power to the PTO.

To do away with it you would need to replace with factory parts from a junkyard or hillbilly bolt it together in some way if it is faulty. I would try to find parts for it if it does not work correctly. Some things are available and some are not.

If you have not realized it yet; When you push the foot clutch on a super h both the travel of the tractor stop as well as stopping the power to the PTO shaft.

The one problem I am having is there is no handle to pull I see where there was one at one time but it is gone. the clutch seams to work fine. I have not figured out how to run the pto or tried to figure it out yet. I want to make sure everything is in place before I brake something. I have tried looking at pictures of it all together and can only see that I am missing the handle I think? If anybody has a good picture of it all together would be great. Thanks Again for all the great help.

I have the original owners manual for the M&W hand clutch. The handle is just a piece of threaded rod, about 1/2" diameter, wtih a black plastic knob on the end. not too hard to make one.
