Paint adds $500. Per gallon to the value of old equipment

At least that is what I heard said at a auction sale once. Guy had every machine on the sale sticky
with fresh paint, didn't help his sale much. I am not having a sale , but I did pick this grapple up
week or so ago for less then half of new price. And I just think it looks better painted then it did
rusty, and I had a can of Tremclad handy , so what the heck. Bruce

I know an equipment jockey like that. cheap paint slathered on everything (tires, hoses, windows etc) doesn't seem to help him sell anything either.

Did you guys get enough rain to help anything out over the weekend? I was in Port Saturday and got a good bit of rain there.

And now it matches your tractor! Got eight tenths here on Saturday, our tractor drive day. May help some, at least stave off disaster. Lots coming tomorrow. Ben

that's good. I don't know how much we got because I'm guessing the storm blew the rain gauge off the post and the dog thought it was a chew toy. We are supposed to be getting a good rain tonight into tomorrow.

I certainly wouldn't paint a tractor with the intention of selling. If you figure in your time the cost would be closer to two grand if you do it right.

Went to an auction once and they had lined up all the equipment in rows in a field and then went down the rows and painted the equipment and the ground red, everything was
IH red.Don't think it helped them much either.

I have been tempted sometimes when looking at an ad where there is paint all over hoses, wires, rust, dirt, and grease, to call the seller and ask what would the price be with the paint removed.

We hired a man to paint several well-houses, once, with that environmental - sky-blue matching blue. He mixed up numerous gallons, an epoxy mix, and painted the well-houses, then realized he had several gallons mixed up and he was all done, and no place to use it. He looked around, saw his old work truck, grabbed several brooms [ I'm not kidding ] and he and his helper put a good ol' heavy coat all over the truck, the bed, in and out, tool-boxes, shoot the tires for all I know. That paint stayed good looking for a number of years, you could always see him coming down the street.

Looks a lot better. What gets me is that you go to buy a piece of used machinery that is painted up nice and pretty. First impression: Gee this thing looks great....bet it runs as good as it looks. You start developing an interest in it and in doing so "kick the tires" and while doing that pull out the dipstick. If oil is even present, it's so black it would pass for black paint. Pass on that one.

I heard couple of dealers talking at the sale in Archbold one time. One said there's no bigger sucker for paint than a farmer.
