Had a guy bring me a carburetor off a John Deere A. That needed a choke shaft and butterfly. He said to order from John Deere so I did. WON'T EVER DO THAT AGAIN!!!!!!

Would you believe JD wants $100 for this choke shaft? My parts order included gaskets, shaft, butterfly, fuel strainer lid,and the needle and seat. Plus two springs. Total was $298.00 The needle and seat was $45.00.

I have made several throttle shafts for air cooled engines with just a file and brass rod. Like to know how JD can justify $100 for four inches of 1/4 brass rod with three holes drilled in it.

LOL John deere wanted fifty six dollars for a radiator cap. Contacted another dealer thirty miles away he wanted forty eight dollars. I asked him if he had after market any cheaper. He told me John deere bought AandI After market parts. The AnI cap was twenty seven dollars. Went and picked it up, Compared it to the one in the green and yellow box same exact part and markings.

I have an account with A&I. A few years ago I needed a starter drive for a 620. I ordered one from A&I. It cost me $35.00. The customer didn't want it. Insisted I get a Deere. The John Deere was $90. Both drives said made in Mexico in the same place. I told the customer he paid $55 for the JD box as I tossed the box into the trash.

The wife has a 51. MT. Needed brakes called local deere dealer. $150. For discs for left side! Thought guy must have looked up wrong part. Stopped couple days later and talked to woman parts person, she confirmed $150. Bought them aftermarket for $39 with shipping. Apparently that box is awful expensive.

Hi tractorguy

paying good money for a box you throw in the trash is nothing new. I was having this argument with guys 20 years ago on new tractor clutch discs and covers. before all this made in the land of not quite right junk came on the market. There was maybe a few companies made clutches for most tractor OEM's and the funny thing was, at that time the jobber had the same exact clutch $300 cheaper and had the exact same warranty. Guys just didn't seem to get it back then either!

paying full retail for something is bad, i got where before i do i shop ebay and forums ect even buddies, my 3 john deeres are all 80's models, but i do know a local man who collects jd if i needed something id even try him first, there just has to be another way, i dont mind a man making a profit, but that seems like plain old fashioned stealing for that part

Had the same experience in 1960 when I needed a heater control for a '57 Mercury. Mercury dealer didn't have the part in stock so I went to a Ford dealer.

Same FoMoCo part number, two thirds the price at a Ford dealer.

I bought an aftermarket rectifier for a John Deere 140 L&G tractor for about $15. Deere wanted well over $100. Of course the Deere guys on Facebook insisted I got the Deere one, because the other one didn't look the same. Add long as it charges,I don't really care. I am thinking about gutting the old one and mounting the new one inside it to mask it though.

Donovan from Wisconsin

I needed a clutch lube pressure over ride switch( just a simple on/off pressure switch 3-6 bar for my 8640. Deere wanted $166 + change.
Same switch at my local Napa store $16,-.
Guess who got the business?

Yep, but getting the OP to believe that truth is another matter! I recommend contacting the folks at the link below for availability and price FIRST.

I thought it was only AGCO and CNH who charged rediculous prices for parts. Believe I read it over on the John Deere forum.

Easy; JD Parts Manager sends Jimmy out to the Hardware Store to get a length of 1/4 inch Brass Rod. Jimmy is gone all day and doesn't show up until the next day, and NO Brass Rod. When questioned by the Parts Manager Jimmy says "he forgot", and he has no explanation as to where he was all day. Can't Fire the little no-good Blankity-Blank 'cause he is the Regional Managers Nephew, in fact you can't even chew him out, or your neck will be in the noose. Well, there's $80. in wages lost, gotta come from somewhere, so .... pass it on to the Customer. Well, if you want a job done right you've got to do it yourself. So, on his Lunch Hour the Parts Manager gets a length of Brass Rod, gets it cut to length, and three holes drilled and tapped in the appropriate positions, and packaged up for shipment, - there's another $20. .

Now you can see why that little piece of Brass costs $100. . LOL

I need an ac condenser for my deere 4030. Deere wants $1700 for one! Abilene Machine wants $275 and its made in the USA! You have to shop around nowdays if you want to even think of staying in business.
