New rear tires and air pressure?

So got new rear tires on the machine this past week. Its a 1961 Case W3 (530) with loader and backhoe attached. The service manual says to run 18 psi yet the tractor tire dealer said run them up to 20 psi if you want. They are BKT brand, industrial tire, 12 ply. 14.9-24 12 PR BKT TR 459 TL. I looked the tires up on the BKT website and you can put higher air pressure in them depending on the type\weight of your machine. I am new at using a this machine so I'd like to pay attention to the correct air pressure. They were at 40 psi when I brought them home and since tires were in the sun, I aired them down to 22 psi. At 22 psi in photo. What do you all suggest?

You are going to get a lot of different answers. I always look at the lug. And air to what makes it just about touches the ground. We would do this with aircraft tires. Just so that outside ring was touching. Your photo just about shows that. On my 7110 I ran just a bit less and got good traction in field work.

Thank you. Yes, I figured it looked ok and yes I have heard the same about having the outside of your lug just touching the ground. The old tires were a 6 ply and an 8 ply so machine seems to sit a tad higher.

Yes, I wondered why the tread is backwards on both wheels. Neighbour noticed that when I first bought machine. Im thinking it was set up like that for back blading with loader bucket. I just left it as is.
