Fixing to spray brush. Recommendations on type , mix, and dawn to use. I have hears that their are different types of dawn soap. Is this true? Isn't it best in summer after a rain as the plant is taking nutrients to store in roots. Thinking of LV 400 and 2 4 D ester? Should I moix roundup also?
 
The dish soap is used as a "wetting" agent. It breaks the skin of the water and lets it get into the plant much faster. Yes there are different soaps. Stuff you buy in the store, then the bargin store, and then at a flea market. I have found that they are not the same viscosity, that means thinned out, and some is made in foreign countrys with the same name. Added water is cheep.
 
If the goal is to kill everything - roundup will do it. If the goal is to kill broad leaf weeds and some woody stuff, i.e. autumn olive - leave the grass living, 2,4-d will do a good job.

I believe LV 400 is an ester 2,4-d - so not sure what mixing with a labeled 2,4-d ester would gain.

Keep in mind that the ester variant of 2,4-d is very volatile. I've read labels that say not to use it above 60 degrees F. You may experience drift and find yourself in heap of trouble with the neighbors and their gardens, plants, etc. If there is a vineyard nearby, planning on being sued....

Consider the amine version of 2,4-d as it is less volitle. Don't know the max temperature, but it can be applied in the summer.

Surfacant: I use whatever tractor supply sells. I can't remember the name. I guess it works.

Read as much as you can regarding spraying, droplet size, correct nozzles and pressure for our sprayer. There is much liability in spraying any herbicide - don't take that responsibility lightly.

YOU NEED TO READ THE LABEL!!! Only the guy doing the spraying is the one responsible for the spaying. Read and UNDERSTAND what you are doing!!!
 
Follow directions carefully with surfactant. I threw some commercial surfactant into 2-4D and killed everything at about 32 oz/acre grass and all. Luckily it was only spot spraying and not broadcast.
