i went to the store yesterday and got a couple cans of krylon farmall red, the purpose was to touch up a new tie rod on the right side of my cub i damaged, [ you dont want to know this story, embarrassing!] but the stuff is nearly brown! what gives, this cub was restored by a gentleman who is a ih nut, he would never use the wrong shade of red on his tractors, and i remember even as a kid, both of the farms tractors , a M and a C were a bright cheery red, not almost brown

Low quality red paint will darken. I painted a Ford few years ago with good paint with hardener. The tractor has been in the sun very little, but a few places that I touched up with the same paint with no hardener got a lot darker in just two years.

Krylon to me is a rip off. What I tried was no good. The name krylon I call cry on in that you will never get rid of the dammage it caused.

What makes you think he used Krylon paint to restore his tractors? He probably used paint from the CaseIH dealer.

I've never heard of Krylon "Farmall Red." What store sells that?

Quite frankly, Krylon would be the LAST brand I'd look to for an accurate color match. Every brand of paint's idea of "Farmall/IH Red" is different. Ace Hardware's spray cans are almost purple, for example. Rustoleum's IH red is the closest in a spray can that I've come across, at least it's a shade of red and not brown or purlple or orange. Majic paints are garbage, so it doesn't matter how close the color is. Valspar is a nice shade of red but you can't get it anywhere.

I've never seen Rustoleum IH red in stores, and TSC quit carrying Valspar in favor of that Majic garbage...

If you want the most accurate match, get a can of "2150 Red" from your CaseIH dealer.

Bit of trivia on paint.

When automobile manufacturers come out with a new color, they don't give the formula to the aftermarket paint manufacturers, Pittsburgh, etc. It's up to the aftermarket manufacturer to formulate a color to match.

Now, the aftermarket paint people recognize that all men are colorblind to some extent. They found that young ladies, late teens to early twenties, have the most accurate perception of color. So-they hire young ladies in this age group to give the final approval on color matches. Apparently when women approach their mid twenties, they begin to lose color perception, too, at least to a minor extent.

I read that in a trade magazine some years ago, and thought it was interesting.

Yes, there is such a thing as "Krylon Farmall Red". I bought a couple cans of it several years ago. The stuff IS red, but it sure is NOT "Farmall red".

Get Rust-Olem I-H RED and that will be good stuff mite not be perfect but will be awfulclose or go to I-H and get 2150 thats just a tad bit darker awful hard to tell the difference.

IH 2150 is the correct color of red and is far superior to either Krylon or Rust-o-leum. Also far superior to anything you might find at the farm store.

This made it look to me like he got Krylon and sprayed it on his tractor.
