Removing oil on slate

I have a customer who claims my truck dripped oil on their slate driveway and wants me to remove it. As I am certain everyone here has a slate driveway, I would find several suggestions for safely removing oil from slate.

Thanks for you help.

i cant afford slate, mine is gravel. but just get some heavy duty degreaser spray it on and pressure wash off.

Take oil dry and rub it on the oil stain with your foot and let it set awhile. That will usually draw most of the oil up out of the slate. Then just use Dawn dish soap an a scrub brush with lots of water after wards to rinse it out.

X2 on the dish soap. Also using a hot water pressure washer will help a lot. One customer of mine has a very nice place and has a reputation for being picky. When I went there I would take a piece of cardboard with me to slide under the front of my work van just in case it leaked something. I don't do it with my new van.

Slate? Sounds expensive, and if it were mine I'd do a lot of experimenting and get the customer's approval of whatever I recommended, BEFORE I did it. I'd be very cautious if this slate is as expensive as it sounds. SLATE?

I would not be asking here I would call somebody that handles slate and if they don't know they may know somebody that does know. You don't want to use a product that may make it worse and end up in a legal battle.

Slate sounds very expensive. An oil leak on a driveway is probably inevitable. You don't want to use something that makes the problem worse. I would ask your customer for a recommendation of what to use, or for the name of a slate installer to get a recommendation.

Make a plan for how to prevent making another stain, that will likely loose the customer for sure.

I would think a degreaser like simple green. scrub in in, and hose it off. You might also contact a place that sells the stuff. I had a 80 ford f350 when I stopped I would get out quick and throw a piece of cardboard under the truck to catch the oil. Stan

If you can find any K2R, spray it on wait till it dries then vacuum. K2r use to be sold in grocery stores for removing grease stains out of cloths but haven't seen it around for a while. You will need something that actually removes the oil, most of the suggestions will just spread it around.

Same as degreasing tractors: Dollar store oven cleaner. Anything intended for contact with your skin will take a long time to break motor oil down.

Is there even any way he can prove it was from your truck and not his own vehical? Does he have video of the drive as it was when you arived all the way till after you were gone? If there is video does it even show up an oil spot? If you have not seen any video like that I would just advise an atorney to get it on record and forget it. He will want to claim you did more dammage if you do try to clean up. First he has to have to be able to prove that it was from your truck and not from his own. Then I would do no more bussineds with him.
