I know nothing about green tractors past the two cylinders.

A neighbor just came by and said he has a 950 for sale. Rod through a hole in the block. Good tires, loader, apparently just needs an engine. Says he can't find an engine and wants what I'll give him.

Any advice? I can't believe engines are not available. I don't think I run a salvage.

if my memory is correct 850 used a Yanmar, I would assume the 750 & 950 used the same
engine, many of the john deere compacts use Yanmar.

Those are Yanmar made tractors engine and all. Not sure if Yanmar models match up to the JD ? Parts are getting hard to find and expensive.
But those were some of the toughest tractors ever built !

Weight it and give him scrap price.

I have a Yanmar 330 basically the same tractor as the 950/1050 JD mechanical parts are the same.Really good little tractor.Hoye Tractor would be a good place to start for an engine. Also would think some of the larger parts yards would have an engine but it might be pretty pricey. If you can buy it cheap enough just buy it and look for a motor sooner or later one will show up.

i have an 850 which had a hard life before i got it, example the owner didnt know anything about it, he couldnt figure out how to pull the release for the grill gaurd, so he bent the hood around it! i fixed that and other small issues with it mostly just neglect, a competent jd dealer can get most parts i needed some rear rims, and these have an odd wheel being japenese, i had to drive 2oo miles one way to find a jd dealer these days, they not only could get the parts i needed they had them shipped to me!
