Ford 6500 backhoe

When I start my backhoe it only runs full throttle. Only way to shut it off is to stall it out using the hydraulics. Any ideas out there. All ideas are appreciated. Thanks.

6500 is Diesel only. Have you stood by the injection pump and had somebody up in the cab move the throttle to see if it is actually moving the lever on the pump? If the lever is moving on the outside of the pump the governor has failed and it is pump rebuild time.

The rack is probably stuck in the pump.... possibly due to a plunger sticking in the barrel. Have you changed the oil in the pump cam box?
You may get lucky by removing the side cover of the pump and spraying some panther pis$ in there and work the rack by hand... otherwise the
whole pump comes off and goes for a full, expensive, rebuild.

Not exactly sure what changing oil in the cam box means. I think I take the cover off the pump and lube it up. Any suggestions on what to use.

The inline injection pump used on your backhoe has it's own oil sump and does not get lube from the engine. The oil in the pump is changed separately from the engine oil.
From your response I'd say it's never been changed or checked and most likely has got low enough to damage the pump.

You really need to get a operators manual and read the maintenance section.

I have a guilty manual and shop manual but have never read anything relating to this. I will look again thanks for your help.

It should have a Simms/Minimec IJ pump unless it's been changed out.... So if you look at the governor housing of the pump near the middle,
down low, you'll see a 1/2" head plug and a 15/16" head plug on top in front of #1 fuel line. Those are the level and fill plugs
respectively. There's a drain on the bottom in line with them. Be CAREFUL of the threads. They strip easily. Drain it out and refil with
15W40 or whatever you're using in the engine and change at engine oil change time. Those old pumps are pretty robust so you may get lucky
with an oil change and freeing it up. Mabey.......
