I am working on an old 2 ton farm truck. Just thinking what would it take to put one of those older dodge Cummins engines in it?? Truck has 5 speed and 2 speed. Know of one that a guy put in a ford f 600. That engine seems to be popular for that type of stuff. Appreciate any thoughts I am not a street rod builder as such nor a Cummins expert!!!

I have a 91 dodge cummins. Excellent engine. I think would be easy if had the whole truck. Or better yet an old school bus with a 5.9 in it. Most would be auto's even better.

Probably your biggest engineering will be how you will get vacuum to your brakes.
But there are easy fixes for that also.

it can be done with research there may even be a kit, [ mounts and an adapter plate to bolt the engine to your transmission, i cant remember the name but if you watch powerblock tv and xtream off road, there building a Cummings suburban, he mentions a manufacture who makes kits to mount the 5.9 mechanical Cummings engine to virtually any transmission, thats the biggie, the rest is just fabrication, and there will be a lot of it, you will probably have to move the radiator to the front side of the core support to gain enough room and possibly re make the firewall too to get it in there, those engines used to and still may come in school buses, so it may not be as hard as doing a pickup swap , but buses have been running automatic transmissions for decades now , its well worth the effort though much more torque than the gas engine has,

You may need to change the rear axle ratio if the two engines run at different speeds or peak torque RPMs.

When I put an 855 Cummins in my 2470 Case, I ran into many options re repowering with a different brand. Some are bolt-in, some you need an adapter plate. Check with Cummins Repower, Steve Mallicoat, in IA. 319-366-7537. He may have info/kits for truck repowers.

You didn't say what brand your grain truck was, but if it's a Chevy or GMC you should check out the forums at Stovebolt dot com, particularly the "Big Bolt" forum. A number of guys there have done or are doing diesel conversions. A lot of good info and advice there.

if my 391 throws a rod in my f -600 my brother has a cummins in a school bus I would like tomput in as a replacement ,,. yes they will go in as ford in the mid 70s
