Molassas for cleaning parts/tools

We visited my in laws yesterday and my father in law showed me a really neat cleaning trick. Someone told him to mix 1 part feed store molasses with 9 parts water in a tub and let badly rusted tools and parts sit in it for 2 weeks and everything comes out freed up and looking like almost new. Couldn't believe my eyes at the condition of the stuff he pulled out of the tub!

I have used Vinegar the same way. I got good results but with out seeing what molasses will do I will have to try it. Thanks for the tip and good luck.

The molasses works great, remember FEED STORE, not grocery store.
Worked slow, but very thorough, biggest drawback is getting rid of the stinking mess when your done. Where I poured mine out down in the woods stuck for quite a while! I'll stick with electrolysis.

It does work great. Any oil needs to be removed. Here is a rusted fender from my 52 Plymouth. It is bear metal as it can get. A top coat needs to be applied immediately or it will start to rust. I wish I had found about this years ago. It does stink. Stan
