That didn't work out the way I intended

Clamp on pallet forks are convenient for light loads if you
have a nice straight bucket, which I don't, but I've made them
work for several years after buying them used off CL.
I think they're pretty much toast now!

wow, and i was about to consider buying a set i dont have to unload pallets much, but i was going to use them to pick up cut tree branches and brush, and drop them in the dump truck are they rusted, or what did you pick up?

They're not rusted Eric, this set is aluminum.
Real easy to pick up and move around. Light duty.
But as you see, they can bend pretty easy too.
To be fair, I bought them used over 5 years ago.

I tucked the pair under the tongue of my empty car
hauler and hooked a chain to the bucket so I could
lift it slightly and back up to turn it a bit.
When I turned the trailer it slid off one of the forks.
The lone fork couldn't hold it by itself.
The trailer is 7K GVW, 18 ft long. Nothing big.

"Smooth move Ex-lax. LOL"

Yep, that's pretty much what I said when I did it too.
Actually, you were much nicer. LOL

What did you try to pick up?

Randy, I said that to my wife on our first date in 1979. '71 GTO, drive in movie. Went and got a bucket of popcorn. Handed it to her and she dumped it on the floor between seat and console. Said the smooth move line, I thought she was going to cry and it would be our first and last date.

Those are not aluminum, they look like thin wall steel tube to me. No way aluminum will rust like that.

I sold a pair that looked like that on CL about 5 years ago. Maybe their my old ones. Only they weren't broke like yours. I was always bending my bucket up lifting too much with them.

Now that you know how not to make them, build your own set to fit the bucket. I made a set for both of my loaders. I borrowed a set from a friend and copied with some changes. They are great for light stuff like brush. Will carry a good size log with my NAA. Can send photos. joe

(quoted from post at 20:54:10 07/29/16) Those are not aluminum, they look like thin wall steel tube to me. No way aluminum will rust like that.
A magnet won't stick to them, so I assumed they were aluminum.
I also assumed the rust was transfer from the bucket.
May be something else I guess.
No rust anywhere other than where it rests when clamped.
They weigh less than 10 LBs each, by guess, including the braces
and screws. I could weigh them I guess.
A magnet will stick to the screws.

Thanks Joe, if you still have it my old email it still works.
If not please send the pics to RoyseTractors at gmail.com
I'd like to build a set without the bucket for visibility soon.
These work very well in most cases though.

When I try to pick more than I should, I run a chain from the lip of buckett to hook welded on top and tighten with chain binder. Yes kind if presidental way of doing it.

I got the type with a chain on the back of the fork, wraps around the bucket, and binders onto the fork just in front of the lip. That way the load is being carried by the top of the bucket as well as the lip of the bucket, much stronger than the type that just screws to the bottom of the bucket lip.

One of the nicest jobs with the is brush clearing fallen and sawn down brush piles, works very well.
