I have a John Deere 4010 with a shifter that is stuck. Ity s not in any gear just seems to be stuck between 1st and Park. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Is tractor setting on a level area or an incline? If on incline attach a towing vehicle and put a little tension on tow chain/strap to take pressure off of gears by applying slight uphill pressure. After pressure is relieved try getting trans out of park. More than likely shift quadrant needs slack shimmed out of it.

You might need to stick a screw driver (a real big one) in beside the gear shift and pry back and forth. Sounds like your gear shift slipped back into the first position without coming out of park. You need to tighten everything up and maybe replace the lower latch.I have a high hour 3020 that did that a few times untill I finally stopped and fixed it right. Tom

The 4020 did that once. I was in a hurry to shift it
and ended up getting it past the shift gate into park
without the shift gate going with the shifter. I
grabbed a big screw driver and forced it back where
it belonged. It hasn't done it since but I am more
deliberate with my shifting. The whole thing is just
worn and sloppy.
