2nd Son William ,and his bride Stacy will marry this Saturday ,. she loves wild flowers and would like to have them in floral arrangements , such as daisies and black eyed susans , and a few strands of honey suckle , they grow wild and are looking pretty good with all the rain at the old Zorn place ,.. trouble is ,,. unless I pik them a few hours before the wedding they wilt in this crazy humid heat just getting them home to my sara ,,. she likes them too , now my question . Does anyone know triks to keep flowers fresh longer ,,. my 1st wife has chekt around and the florists don't carry such wild flowers,,. But we can go plastic , and I am told they look decent ,.but we want the real thing..

Floralife added to the water will help some. You can get it from most florists and garden centers. I have also heard that crushed up aspirin will do the same thing. Wildflowers are tough to keep fresh.

Carry a bucket of water with you and put each one in as soon as you cut it. That's what I was told and it seems to help. Apparently the cut end dries out very rapidly since the top of the plant is sort of sucking moisture up from the roots all of the time, or that's what I understood him to say.

Instead of water, try storing them in soda pop - sprite, 7up, etc. Might extend life a few hours. Keep in cool basement until last possible moment.

I worked for a florist one year, while in college.

My suggestions:
When cutting stem, cut at diagonal. Makes larger surface area for stem to draw up water.
Immediately place stem in bucket of water.
Buy Oasis, it's a green foam that you soak in water. you can cut Oasis any shape to fit in vase. Oasis helps keep stem in place in arrangement plus get water to stem.
Also, as suggested crush aspirin in water to help keep flowers longer. Store in cool place until needed.

To add to everybody else , cut with a knife not scissors as they can pinch the stems and they can't draw up as much water
